Tangled Bank jobshiringnearme.org is seeking 2 Wildlife jobshiringnearme.org Technicians based in Asheville, NC to support multiple concurrent, multi-state conservation initiatives throughout the southern and eastern United States. This position will contribute to large-scale biodiversity monitoring efforts using emerging conservation technologies, including environmental DNA (eDNA), aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling, automated imaging, and camera trap surveys.
Primary responsibilities will include collecting eDNA samples, collecting aquatic macroinvertebrate samples, deploying and servicing camera trap arrays, processing aquatic macroinvertebrate samples in the laboratory, and assisting with data management and project logistics. These efforts will support evaluation of conservation outcomes and improve understanding of aquatic and terrestrial biodiversity across the region. Additional responsibilities may include assisting with other field, laboratory, and conservation projects as organizational needs evolve.
The first portion of the position will be heavily field-based, with extensive travel throughout the eastern and southern United States. Field work will be most intensive during September and October, with additional travel continuing intermittently through November and December. During field assignments, technicians will conduct eDNA sampling, aquatic macroinvertebrate sampling, and camera trap deployment across multiple project areas. Technicians will provide their own vehicle for project travel, with mileage reimbursement provided for approved project-related travel. Lodging expenses associated with required out-of-town project travel will be covered by Tangled Bank jobshiringnearme.org. Following the field season, responsibilities will transition toward laboratory-based project support, including macroinvertebrate specimen sorting, operation of automated imaging equipment, and additional data and project support tasks.
Project staff will provide training, equipment, sampling locations, and project-specific guidance prior to each field deployment. Technicians will be expected to independently implement field protocols while maintaining regular communication with project staff.
