Tangled Bank jobshiringnearme.org, in partnership with Pheasants Forever and as part of the USDA’s Working Lands for Wildlife (WLFW) initiative, is seeking two Seasonal Field Technicians to support the development and validation of new standardized aquatic monitoring protocols. These protocols will be used to evaluate conservation outcomes under the Southern Waters Framework (SWF), a large-scale initiative focused on improving aquatic habitat connectivity, biodiversity, and climate resilience across the eastern and central United States.
Field Technicians will conduct aquatic biodiversity monitoring across multiple states, collecting environmental DNA (eDNA) samples and aquatic macroinvertebrate samples from designated watersheds. The data collected through this project will contribute to the development of efficient, scalable monitoring approaches that improve our ability to measure the impacts of conservation practices on aquatic ecosystems.
Technicians will work in teams of two and will be responsible for independently implementing field protocols, managing sampling schedules, and coordinating day-to-day logistics throughout the field season. Protocols and training will be provided virtually at the beginning of the field season. Following training, each field team will be responsible for independently planning and carrying out their assigned sampling route, booking their own lodging, and managing day-to-day field logistics. Teams will be provided with all necessary equipment, coordinates for assigned sampling sites, and detailed project protocols. Project staff will remain available throughout the field season to answer questions, troubleshoot issues, and provide remote support as needed.
The work involves extensive travel across multiple states, and technicians should expect to remain on the road for most if not all of the 2-3 month field season. This position is best suited for experienced field technicians who enjoy independent work, solving problems in the field, extensive travel, and taking ownership of day-to-day field operations.
This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with emerging aquatic monitoring technologies and contribute to a large-scale conservation initiative designed to improve how conservation outcomes are measured across working landscapes.
