THIS position IS SHORT TERM, MAX 1000 HOURS PER CALENDAR YEAR

North Wind Services is actively seeking individuals who can contribute to national security within the science, technology, and engineering fields as part of our supplemental labor team at vital federal research and development installations supporting the Department of Energy. NWS has an established history of contributing to the success of theircustomer’smission. Available employment opportunities may range from administrative and logistical support to advanced technical positions.

Qualified applicants must be a US citizen, at least 18 years of age, and able to meet pre-employment requirements including any requiredphysical, drug screen, and/or background investigation to satisfy clearance requirements from the Department of Energy.

Successful candidates will be employees of NWS, a premier government contractor charged with employing highly motivated and well-qualified personnel who can advance the missions of the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, CA. Though employed by NWS, the employee will take day-to-daydirectionsfrom technical personnel employed directly by the research laboratories. Pay, benefits, Human Resource, and Employment Management functions are provided by NWS.

The Global Security (GS) Directorate within the N Program has an opening for aSafety Analyst to support NNSA’s NA-243 Nuclear Materials Verification (NMV) mission. The successful candidate will oversee the inventory and readiness of Health and Safety (H&S) equipment and supplies maintained at LLNL, prepare shipping documentation and ship instruments and suppliesfor training exercises and verification missions, and participate in team training exercises and deployments with the NMV verification teams.

This position may require the employee to have the flexibility to work overtime, shift and/or weekends to accomplish goals. The successful candidate will be required to pass various on-site training modules to pursue work assignments.

Essential Duties
– Maintain inventory and readiness of H&S instrumentation, supplies, and standard operating. procedures for verification deployment missions.
– Participate in team training exercises and deployments with the NMV verification teams.
– Prepare shipping documents and ship NMV H&S instruments and supplies for training exercises and verification missions.
– Participate in safety briefings to verification team members about the radiological and general safety status of host facilities.
– Provide input to the Team Leads and NMV Program Management for safety measures, equipment, and procedures necessary to support the verification team mission
– Provide input to NNSA’s NMV Strategic Plan and H&S documents, including Event Specific H&S Plan, NMV H&S Manual and its annexes and attachments, procedures, and concepts of operations (CONOPs), and after-action reports.
– Perform other job duties as assigned.

Essential Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities
– Ability to maintain a U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
– Bachelor’s degree in health physics, Industrial Hygiene, Industrial Safety, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
– Significant experience with radiation detection and protection equipment, such as instruments used for radiation and contamination surveys, and active and passive radiation dosimetry.
– Ability to work independently to solve complex problems and propose solutions.
– Ability to interpret and implement administrative procedures and processes.
– Effective interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

Special Requirements
Pre-Placement Medical Exam: A job-related pre-placement medical examination may be required.
Pre-employment drug test: External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post offer, pre-employment drug test.
Anticipated Government Clearance Level: Q (position will be cleared to this level). Applicants selected will be subject to a federal background investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matters. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
