Job Summary
Now hiring for a great role at Gateway! The Laboratory Technician position performs a wide variety of technical and administrative support for the automotive laboratory. Responsibilities include issuing tools, repairing tools, maintaining equipment and training aids, updating electronic inventories, and preparing the tool room and laboratory for instructional purposes. Other duties will include maintaining computer records, ordering and stocking supplies. This position may also assist in other laboratory activities as needed in an automotive shop.This position may also work with our stakeholders to maintain and receive all resources from our partners.
Essential Functions
30% – Assists faculty members with basic operational needs such preparing and setting up work areas and instructional equipment while dispensing tools and equipment to students.
30% – Monitors and maintains the laboratory, tool room, supplies, and computers and all internal operations associated with an automotive shop environment.
20% – Maintains and services tools, equipment, and training aids including vehicles, fueling vehicles, shop cleanliness. Coordinates with outside vendors while working with specialized equipment, record keeping on shop inventory and equipment, maintaining lifecycle information on shop equipment.
10% – Orders parts, supplies, and maintains electronic inventory, vehicle inventory and readiness.
10% – This position may also work with our stakeholders to maintain and receive all resources from our partners. Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Associate’s Degree from a regionally accredited institution and one (1) year of laboratory experience such as maintaining equipment, facility space, supplies or other resources used for laboratory purposes in the area of assignment.
OR
An equivalent combination of the conferred degree and directly related full-time work experience as described above sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation, may be considered.
Desired Qualifications
A. Bachelors degree in Automotive, Aviation, HVAC, Electrical, or tool and equipment based degree or 5 years of automotive industry experience
B. Two (2) or more years of customer service experience in a tool or automotive shop
C. Two (2) or more years of customer service experience in a parts and/or service department
D. Two (2) or more years’ experience servicing and maintaining tools and equipment
E. Two (2) or more years’ experience working with an electronic inventory system
F. Experience with MS software including Word and Excel
G. One (1 year) full-time relevant MCCCD experience during the previous two years (internal candidates ONLY)
