With sustainability and conservation in mind, you will provide sustainable fishing opportunities for residents as well as commercial and tribal interests in the South Puget Sound area.
WHAT TO EXPECT –
Among the varied range of responsibilities held within this role, this position will:
Supervision.
Managing facility production.
Managing facility budgets.
Operations management and compliance.
Internal/External Communications.
Working Conditions:
Work setting: May encounter adverse weather and sea conditions, noise, odors, repetitive movements of hands, finger manipulations, long periods of sitting, squatting, walking, boating, climbing in and out of boats, carrying, kneeling, heavy lifting (up to 40 lbs. unassisted), standing in confined spaces, slippery surfaces, biting and stinging insects, use of knives, may transport agency staff and equipment in agency vehicles. This position may involve working in or near water, including tasks that require navigating, negotiating, and performing duties related to water environments.
Schedule: Typically, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday. The work hours can vary greatly for this position at different times of the year depending on the work schedule and weather conditions.
Standby: Standby duties are currently assigned – standby entails the employee being responsible for overseeing the facility for the remaining 16 hours of the day. When on standby this position will require the employee to work ten days (10) and be off for four (4) days.
All applicants applying for this position should understand that standby is a requirement for all positions in the Fish Hatchery Specialist series. Management may determine it is necessary to assign standby to accomplish the goals and objectives of the agency and as necessary to protect the resources of the agency and if assigned, it will be a requirement of the position.
Housing: Housing is provided for this position.
Travel requirements: Travel may be required for short periods of time to accomplish agency goals and required training, or to attend meetings.
Customer Interactions: Interaction with co-managers and constituents almost daily. At times communicate with media outlets.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required Qualifications:
Option 1: One (1) year of experience as a Fish Hatchery Specialist 3.
Option 2: Associate degree in fisheries technology, biology or closely allied field, and three (3) years of experience performing fish culture duties in a hatchery.
Option 3: A Bachelor’s degree in fisheries, biology or closely allied field, and three (3) years of experience performing fish culture duties in a hatchery.
Option 4: Seven (7) years of experience performing a variety of fish culture duties in a hatchery.
