*This position is eligible for the annual performance bonus plan.
This position primarily involves working on-site at the project location or in office. Travel frequency and duration will vary depending on the role and project timeline.

THE ENERGY TEAM
Our Energy Group at CEI builds projects from the field to the grid. Whether it’s a solar, battery storage, substation, EV charging, microgrid or converter station project, our skilled project managers, engineers and field employees deliver when it matters most. We work with customers on programs of all sizes-those spanning several smaller sites or spanning several thousandacres. Besides building some of the nation’s largest utility-scale solar plants and installing more EV charging stations in California than any other contractor, we are dedicated to running a business that is environmentally responsible.
ABOUT THE ROLE
A. Regulatory Compliance & Permitting
- Interpret and implement requirements under federal and state laws (e.g.,NEPA,Clean Water Act,ESA,MBTA, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality or comparable state agency rules).
- Manage permit conditions and compliance documentation for:
- Stormwater (SWPPP) and erosion control
- Wetlands and waters delineations and associated permits
- Wildlife and habitat management plans
- Cultural resources and archaeological monitoring
- Dust control and air quality
- Coordinate annual and project-specific environmental reporting.
B. Field Environmental Oversight
- Implement and maintain theEnvironmental Management Plan (EMP).
- Oversee daily site inspections for erosion control, water management, spill prevention, and wildlife protection.
- ManageESC (erosion and sediment control)installation and maintenance.
- Verify compliance with waste management protocols, hazardous materials handling, and SPCC plans.
C. Agency & Stakeholder Interface
- Serve as primary environmental liaison with:
- U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service
- U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
- State wildlife agencies
- State environmental agencies (TCEQ, IDEM, Illinois EPA, etc.)
- Local county and municipal authorities
- Facilitate joint inspections, support audits, and respond to agency findings.
D. Construction Support
- Advise construction teams on environmental constraints, including:
- Wetlands/waters avoidance
- Protected species timing restrictions (e.g., migratory bird nesting)
- Cultural resource protection zones
- Dust and noise mitigation
- Review project design changes for environmental impacts.
E. Incident Management
- Lead environmental incident investigations (spills, wildlife interactions, BMP failures).
- Develop corrective actions and ensure closeout documentation.
- Train site personnel on environmental incident reporting protocols.
F. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain site environmental logs, GIS-based environmental maps, and compliance trackers.
- Produce weekly and monthly environmental reports for internal teams and clients.
G. Day-to-Day Activities
- Conduct morning environmental walkdown with construction team leads.
- Inspect BMPs and document corrective actions in a compliance tracker.
- Review updated grading plans for impacts to wetlands buffers.
- Coordinate with biologists on wildlife monitoring.
- Respond to a minor spill, direct containment/cleanup, and prepare the incident report.
- Meet with the owner’s environmental rep for weekly compliance review.
- Update GIS shapefiles showing new disturbance areas.
- Prepare daily environmental report.
ABOUT YOU
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Able to train craft teams and influence field supervisors.
- Comfortable operating in fast-paced EPC environments with shifting priorities.
- Valid driver’s license with ability to travel between project sites.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather and terrain.
- Zero environmental regulatory violations.
- Positive agency and owner feedback on project environmental performance.
- On-time permit reporting and documentation.
- Effective support of construction schedule with minimal environmental-driven delays.
- Well-maintained and fully compliant SWPPP program.
- Strong environmental culture among craft and field supervisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Environmental science, Biology, Natural Resources, Environmental Engineering, or related field.
Licensure/Certifications:
- CPESC,CESSWI, orSWPPP Practitioner(preferred).
- OSHA 30 (required or obtained on hire).
Experience:
- 5-10+ years in environmental compliance, ideally inutility-scale solar, wind, transmission, or large infrastructure construction.
- Direct experience withSWPPP, ESC field work, environmental monitoring, and federal/state permitting.
- Experience in Midwest or Texas regulatory environments is strongly preferred.
Driving Record: Valid state-issued driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
