• Part-Time (Approximately 20 hours per week from September through mid-June – pending program registrations, position could go to full-time)
• Full-Time Seasonal during Summer (July & August)

Position Summary

KEEN is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Environmental Education & Adventure Programs Manager to lead and expand our adventure-based and environmental education initiatives in Ellensburg Washington. In this evolving role, you will design and implement a variety of programs—from after-school activities and summer camps (including spring 4th-grade Outdoor School) to school-year adventure trips. You will also drive new initiatives in curriculum development, community outreach, fundraising, grant writing, first aid training, and adventure leadership. This position is designed to grow over time as you infuse it with your interests, skills, and experiences.

Key Responsibilities

• Program Design & Implementation:
• Lead the planning and execution of KEEN’s diverse programs, including after-school activities, summer camps, 4th-grade camps, and year-round adventure trips.
• Develop innovative program ideas that align with community needs and environmental education best practices.
• Community Outreach & Public Engagement:
• Establish and nurture strong partnerships with local schools, community groups, and families.
• Expand KEEN’s visibility and participation through targeted outreach initiatives.
• Curriculum & Program Development:
• Design engaging curricula that incorporate environmental education, adventure leadership, and first aid training.
• Tailor program content for various audiences—including youth, older kids, and adults.

• Fundraising & Grant Writing:
• Assist with developing and implementing fundraising strategies.
• Spearhead grant writing efforts to secure sustainable funding for program growth.
• Staff & Camp Management:
• Recruit, hire, and manage seasonal camp staff.
• Oversee summer camp programming, ensuring adherence to scheduling, safety protocols, and high-quality instruction.
• Adventure Leadership & First Aid:
• Plan and lead outdoor adventures and field trips, ensuring enriching and safe experiences for all participants.
• Provide first aid training to staff and the public and maintain rigorous safety standards across all programs.

  Create scalable operational systems and foster a collaborative team environment, ensuring the program evolves efficiently and effectively.

Required Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in youth education, outdoor education, or related fields.
• Strong knowledge of Washington’s natural environment—including local flora, fauna, and geography.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple projects.
• Proven public outreach and communication skills.
• A creative, reliable approach to program design and problem-solving.

Preferred Qualifications

• Background in environmental science, education, or outdoor recreation.
• Experience with grant writing and fundraising initiatives.
• Certification in wilderness first aid (or higher) and experience in training others.
• Certified lifeguard or willingness to get certified.
• Ability to develop and implement culturally relevant programs for diverse populations.
• Spanish language proficiency is a plus.

Compensation

• Starting rate of $22 per hour, with potential for additional hours and increased compensation as the position evolves.
• As funding is secured and goals are met, KEEN’s intention is to offer a 401 K, medical benefits, and other opportunities for growth when the Yakima Canyon Interpretive Center is established.
