Job description

We are looking for a proactive and dedicated Yard Operative to contribute to providing a high-quality bus and coach asset management service to businesses in the Milton Keynes area.As a Yard Operative, you will be responsible for overseeing the cleanliness, roadworthiness, and security of our fleet while ensuring the smooth operation of our yard. This role reports directly to the Service Delivery Manager (SDM) and plays a crucial part in maintaining our fleet’s standards.Key Responsibilities:

• Perform daily security checks to ensure all assets are locked and secure at the start and end of each workday.
• Regularly assess the fleet’s physical appearance, identifying cleaning, repair, and maintenance needs to keep the vehicles fit-for-hire, roadworthy, taxed, tested, and compliant with regulations.
• Check in and wash vehicles, reporting any initial defects to ensure prompt action.
• Prioritise the preparation of pre-booked buses and coaches, ensuring they meet customer requirements and are clean, legal, and damage-free.
• Safeguard the health, safety, and welfare of all staff and visitors in collaboration with the Sales Directing Manager.
• Supervise yard operations, including equipment movement and storage, and maintain the cleanliness and tidiness of the yard.
• Regularly review parking arrangements to ensure easy access to available equipment.
• Attend regular health and safety meetings and contribute to process improvements for yard efficiency.
• Perform driving duties as required by the business.

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Full, valid UK driving licence required.
• Provisional driving licence for PCV desirable.
• Effective communication skills, with a working knowledge of transport or distribution being advantageous.
• Excellent teamwork and organisational skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple tasks.
• Strong knowledge of safety regulations and commitment to maintaining a safe working environment.
