Want to join something GREAT and make a difference? The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is recruiting Wildland Fire Aviation Fuel Support Truck Drivers to become members of Washington State’s Wildland Fire Aviation Operations crew. Aviation personnel are based out of Yakima and Olympia and provide state-wide aviation support for fires throughout the season. Aviation personnel primarily perform initial attack firefighting, often in remote locations (accessed by helicopter), and support DNR’s firefighting helicopter fleet.

Wildland Fire Aviation Fuel Support Truck Driver positions support Helicopter operations only and therefore are only required to take and pass a light-level Work Capacity Test. As a condition of hire, Wildland Fire Aviation Fuel Support Truck Drivers must provide a current DOT medical certificate and pass a TSA background check at a cost to the applicant. Applicants will have the opportunity to take S-271 (Helicopter Crew Member) training and will support duties as such off the fire line under the direction of the Helicopter Manager.

Individuals must be willing and capable of performing strenuous outdoor work, typically in a very hot environment, safely and productively, and of accepting directions and acting responsibly. The duration of these positions is generally 6-8 months.

  • Performs Jet-A fuel quality assurance checks.
  • Maintains support fuel truck inventory.
  • Performs compound maintenance and other duties as assigned.
  • Performs field aviation equipment inspections and troubleshooting.

Required Qualifications:

  • experience with mapping information and the ability to navigate using paper and electronic road maps.
  • Experience in driving large vehicles.
  • Licensed Class B CDL with HAZMAT, Air brake, and Tank endorsements or ability to obtain within 45 days of hire.
