The Latino Heritage Internship Program seeks to engage young professionals in natural resource careers. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

• Be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
• Be between the ages of 18 – 30 years or up to 35 years if a veteran.
• Be willing to undergo a background check upon hiring.
• Have a valid driver’s license and a good driving record.

Position description: 

The Visual Information Specialist intern will build upon both Fort Davis NHS and Blackwell School’s NPS website, expand upon a social media presence, foster community engagement and connections, and create visual materials. In July 2024, BLSC was established as the 430th unit in the NPS. The LHIP intern will work to expand the new park story to the public, students, and visitors. The intern will work under Fort Davis National Historic Site (FODA) Interpretation Division to create content for the newly established BLSC and assist in updating FODA website as well. The intern will serve as a visual information specialist who supports public outreach through multi-media projects. 

Responsibilities:

• Build new components of the official park website, assisting in capturing video/photos for respective park sites at events or programs being offered, and updating park social media sites.
• Conduct community engagement and outreach.
• Support visual aspects of materials such as photographs, illustrations, diagrams, graphs, objects, and charts used in books, magazine, pamphlets, exhibits, live or video recorded speeches or lectures.
• Document planning and public input/outreach activities and be present during site visits with IMR Regional NPS Program leads and attend meetings with other NPS partners.

Qualifications:

Major studies relevant to this position: arts, history or education majors 

• Graduated with a BA or BS
• experience in social media and/or digital media.
• Interest in public communication.
• Strengths in photography, digital design, and writing experience preferred.
• Ability to conduct presentations to the public, school students, and visitors.
• Skills in working in group settings, organizing tasks, and planning activities.
• Experienced with making websites, knowledge of computer science
• Experience in public history that includes museum work, archives, and other types of scholarly applications.

The Public Land Corps Non-Competitive Hiring Authority is a special hiring authority available to qualifying interns. The intern must be between the ages of 18 and 30 years old, inclusive, or a veteran up to age 35 and complete 640 hours of work on an appropriate conservation project to be eligible for this hiring authority. Upon successful completion of the PLC project(s), the intern is eligible for two years to be hired non-competitively into a federal seasonal, term, or permanent position.
