Quark is recognized for its diverse fleet of passenger vessels and offers the widest variety of polar itineraries of any other adventure company.The role:The Vessel Technical Manager will lead all aspects of Ultramarine’s technical management, focusing on Repairs & Maintenance and CAPEX budgets, the relationship with the technical management company, and the relevant commercial contracts. They will be responsible for supervising the upkeep and maintenance of shipboard equipment and planning, reviewing, and monitoring Repairs & Maintenance and CAPEX budgets. As needed, they will collaborate with partners across the business to provide insights and support wider business objectives.This position is fully remote, offering you the flexibility to work from anywhere. Please note that you will need to work on Eastern Standard Time (EST).What you will be doing:

• Be responsible for shipboard machinery, crewing, and processes to ensure compliance to all applicable (external and internal) standards. Including, but not limited to;

• Source and review quotes for equipment and services.
• Supervise the technical management company.
• Investigate accidents, and breakdowns, to prevent recurrence. Follow up and action on any deficiencies.
• Keep updated with current trends in technology and procedures to strive for continuous improvement and innovation.
• Collaborate with technical management companies.

• Keeping machinery reliable, crew safe, and vessel compliant with all class, flag, and IMO regulations.
• Monitoring, reviewing, and improving machinery performance.
• Planning, budgeting, completing refit and dry docking.
• Establish, and implement plans for the purchase and delivery of bunker fuel for the ship, and zodiacs, including Urea against Quark’s sailing plans / technical itineraries within budgeted cost. Work with suppliers to acquire the best prices.
• Coordinate and/or lead all aspects of vessel maintenance. Provide support and mentorship for the prevention and handling of equipment breakdown and malfunction, to support timely and efficient solutions.
• Organizing, documenting, and following up on warranty claims. Ensuring detailed records and provide oversight to Quark’s assets and inventory management.
• Conduct scheduled and ad-hoc shipboard visits to support season start, refit and dry dock. Plan dry docking periods including timelines, budgets and Gantt charts.
• Collaborate with financial analysts to support the development and oversight of OPEX budgets and propose adjustments and corrective actions, that will decrease the cost and increase the effectiveness of services.
• Oversee contractual arrangements related to the operations including rental, leases, and owned assets.
• Contribute to development of New Product and continuous improvement of product in market. Inc providing seasonal data driven reviews and scenario modelling for future planning.
• Assist in promoting Sustainability targets and the methods/incentives to reach and exceed them onboard through onboard procedures, contracts, and procurement.
• Work with the Health and Safety team to ensure delivery of Quark/Travelopia standards of safety excellence.

What we are looking for:

• 2 years of managerial experience in the marine industry.
• Understanding of maritime polar passenger operations and in-depth knowledge of relevant regulations, safety standards, and industry best practices.
• Experience supervising commercial contracts, financial planning, and budgeting
• Strong leadership, organization, and communication skills.
• Proven track record in project management, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Ability to work on EST
• Available to travel

Preferred qualifications:

• Experience in the expedition cruise industry
• Experience or expertise working in remote areas
• Bachelor’s degree
