GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under the direction of the Wildlife Region III Director, this position is responsible for highly advanced (senior-level) natural resources work supervising all employees, field activities, research projects, facility maintenance, area operations, program specific activities, and manages the budget for the Middle Trinity River Ecosystem Project (MTREP). The MTREP includes Gus Engeling, Richland Creek, Big Lake Bottom, Keechi Creek, Cedar Creek Islands, and Trinity River Wildlife Management Areas (WMA). Provides training/training opportunities for WMA employees, prepares administrative and technical reports, regulation proposals, and supervises all other activities within the WMA Project. Responsible for the development of appropriate demonstrations, public hunting/public use, and other public outreach programs. Disseminates information to the general public, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and other constituents of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) through various communication channels such as telephone, mail, news media, group presentations, etc. Responsible for building public support for TPWD programs and wildlife conservation. Works under minimal supervision, with extensive latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
NOTE: Residency in state housing is available but not required. State housing rates are deducted from monthly salary as an emolument. The current housing rate is $205.43 per month.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree preferably in Wildlife Science, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology, Range and Wildlife Management, or closely related field in Natural Resources Management. Major course work from bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree programs must include a minimum of 24 hours in Wildlife/Habitat jobshiringnearme.org, Wildlife/Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Biology, and/or Research Methods.
Experience:
Five years professional experience, not associated with the pursuit of undergraduate or graduate degree programs, as a wildlife biologist, ecologist or as a closely related natural resource scientist.
Licensure:
Must possess or be able to obtain within 30 days of employment a valid Texas Class “C” driver’s license.
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Master’s degree in Wildlife Science, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology, Range and Wildlife Management, or closely related field in Natural Resources Management may be substituted for one year of the required experience;
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Ph.D. in Wildlife Science, Wildlife Management, Wildlife Ecology, Range and Wildlife Management, or closely related field in Natural Resources Management may be substituted for two years of the required experience.

Current National Wildfire Coordinating Group’s (NWCG) Fire Fighter Type II certification.
