GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position is in a very remote and rugged portion of the Chihuahuan Desert with extreme heat in the summer. Amenities are limited and cell signals are not always reliable. It is highly recommended that applicants review, research, and visit the area before applying. The Big Bend region is also a gorgeous part of Texas with some of the best outdoor recreational opportunities and most interesting interpretive opportunities in the entire state and features very mild to warm winters and is one of the most bio-diverse regions in Texas.
Under the direction of the Park Superintendent, this position performs advanced (senior-level) construction, restoration, renovation, and maintenance work. This position is responsible for directing work and carrying out all levels of park maintenance operations and administration while building a strong team dynamic. Responsible for regulatory compliance in all utility operations to include completion of required testing, forms and reports as required by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD). Responsible for training direct reports to function at a high level both independently and as part of a team. Performs all phases of maintenance and repairs to other park facilities, equipment, grounds, vehicles, and electrical and plumbing systems. Responsible for all vehicle fleet maintenance and small engine equipment. Assist in enforcing park rules and regulations and performing resource management tasks. Other duties include recordkeeping; purchasing in accordance with TPWD purchasing procedures; scheduling and communicating work plans; maintaining standard operating procedures for park equipment and vehicles; following TPWD safety program and ensuring team follows TPWD Safety Standards; and responding to emergency situations as necessary. Works under minimal supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience:
Four years of facility, equipment or grounds maintenance experience.
Four years of automotive or small engine repair experience.
NOTE: Experience may have occurred concurrently
Licensure:
NOTE: Retention of position contingent upon obtaining and maintaining required license and compliance with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s (TCEQ) Criminal Conviction Guidelines.
