GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Balmorhea State Park is a highly seasonal visitation park where staff works shifts other than 8AM-5PM. During the busy season, staff will be expected to work 8 hours shifts, ranging from early morning to late at night. Days off are generally scheduled to be back-to-back but are not guaranteed to be on Saturday and Sunday.
One of the world’s largest spring-fed pools, with water so crystal clear you’ll want to bring your snorkeling gear to experience the underwater world below.
Under the direction of the Lead Ranger (Maintenance Supervisor), this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction work. Responsible for the daily operation duties include but are not limited to, preventative maintenance (cleaning/inspecting) and repairs to facilities, buildings, equipment, vehicles, and grounds at Balmorhea State Park. Operates all types of equipment such as trucks, tractors, mowers, and power tools. Serves as the Site Safety Officer (SSO) for Balmorhea State Park. Provides visitor service assistance by issuing permits, collecting revenue, providing information and registers visitors using an automated registration system. Assists in enforcing park rules and regulations. Performs resource management tasks and interprets the park’s natural and cultural resources. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience:
Three years’ experience in facility, equipment or grounds maintenance.
Licensure:
Must possess a valid State driver’s license.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:
Experience:
Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of experience with a maximum substitution of two years.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in a related field -OR- Graduation from an accredited Technical school with degree in a related field.
