GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
This position is located in a very remote and rugged portion of the Chihuahuan Desert with extreme heat in the summer. Amenities are limited and cell signals are not always reliable. It is highly recommended that applicants review, research, and visit the area before applying. The Big Bend region is also a gorgeous part of Texas with some of the best outdoor recreational opportunities in the entire state featuring very mild to warm winters and the highest biodiversity in Texas.
Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, this position performs complex (journey-level) building maintenance and construction. Responsible for overall maintenance of park grounds, facilities, including vehicles and equipment for Barton Warnock Visitor Center at Big Bend Ranch State Park. Provides visitor services, including revenue collection and public relations functions. Performs all phases of maintenance, including campground maintenance and trash collection, minor repairs of boat ramps, roads, campsites, buildings, equipment, fences, water lines, windmills, mowing, plumbing, electrical, daily janitorial cleaning of restrooms/lodging facilities, and laundry operations. Performs all aspects of groundskeeping to include hiking trail maintenance and erosion control practices. Operates all types of equipment, including hand and power tools, mowers, tractors, and other equipment. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Performs additional duties as assigned. Complies with all Agency, Division and Branch rules, regulations and procedures.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Graduation from High School or GED.
Experience:
Three years facility, equipment, or grounds maintenance experience.
Licensure:
Must possess a valid State driver’s license.
ACCEPTABLE SUBSTITUTIONS:

Thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university may substitute for one year of the required experience, with a maximum substitution of two years.
