The Environmental Institute of Houston (EIH) at the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL) is conducting the National Wetland Condition Assessment (NWCA) to assess the condition of the nation’s wetland habitats. We are currently recruiting up to two full-time seasonal (18-week duration) field technician/intern positions to assist with field sampling. All work will be based out of Houston, Texas, but extensive travel is required to conduct state-wide field work. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable field experience in all aspects of wetland condition assessment including water quality, vegetation, soil, and stressors using standardized EPA rapid assessment methods.
LOCATION: Based in Houston, Texas; includes state-wide overnight travel
SALARY: Starting at: $2,599.34/month (commensurate with experience; full-time, non-benefits eligible); travel expenses during field work covered by grant funds (relocation expenses not provided)
QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants should be pursuing or possess a Bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, environmental science or a closely related field. Applicants must be willing to travel but are required to have lodging in the Houston area for office-based activities between sampling trips. Additionally, the successful candidates will:

Additional Notes: All applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and be physically able to drive university vehicles. Applicants must pass a criminal background and motor vehicle background checks prior to hire. This is not a benefits eligible position and continued employment beyond the 18-week restriction is dependent on available grant funds.
START DATE: May 1st, 2026 (flexible depending on availability)
END DATE: September 3rd, 2021; or 18-weeks after starting date, whichever is first
