EARN A HIRING BONUS OF UP TO $10,000!*EXCLUSIONS APPLY – CHECK WITH HR FOR DETAILSJOB SUMMARYThe Technician Specialist performs specialized original equipment manufacturer (OEM) quality maintenance on company assets, overhauls major and minor components and installs replacements. The position also conducts quality inspections and in depth mechanical, electrical and computer diagnostics.CORE RESPONSIBILITIES * Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when and where required.
- Report immediately any safety violations and correcting unsafe acts or conditions.
- Comply with company safety policies and with applicable state and federal regulations.
- Will be required to drive a vehicle with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) not to exceed 26,000 pounds.
- Document repair operations and time-tracking in accordance with company procedures.
- Requisition parts as necessary.
- Perform failure analysis and reporting findings to maintenance management.
- Diagnose and triage assets and prioritize repairs.
- Assist co-workers with diagnostics and repairs.
- Train technicians on the proper processes of repairs.
- Conduct quality checks on repairs made by co-workers.
- Conduct technical inspections and document findings.
- Conduct root cause analysis on rework and faulty parts.
- Maintain repair order documentation to include repair description, parts used, repair times and warranty information.
- Perform monthly inventories as required.
- Ensure the work area is clean and neat.
- Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission systems, transmission, brake, hydraulic and electrical systems to manage advanced preventive and repair maintenance functions of heavy equipment and vehicles used by the company, on site and on the road.
- Other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS & QUALIFICIATIONS
- At least 10 years of heavy truck or equipment maintenance experience including experience performing maintenance on Class 8 trucks and heavy equipment
- At least five years of OEM heavy truck or equipment maintenance experience, specializing in a specific field as a master technician
- Must possess own tools
- Master experience diagnosing and repairing electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, fuel, engine cooling, air conditioning, and engine and transmission systems for heavy equipment
- Proficient with shop equipment and OEM diagnostic software such as: Tech tool, Cummins Insite, Allison Doc, Bendix, Etc.
- Expert knowledge of federal, state and local laws and regulations, including but not limited to Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
- Effective time management skills
- Specialized skillset in one or more of the following areas: Allison transmissions, Mack/Volvo, Cummins/Paccar, McNeilus refuse systems
- Ability to complete in depth technical repairs to engines, transmission, differential, and after treatment systems
- Ability to read and understand technical and service manuals
- Ability to manage multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
- Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs
- Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite – e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook
- Excellent negotiation and communication skills (both written and verbal)
PREFERRED SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or its equivalent
- ASE Master Technician Certified
- Class B commercial driver’s license
- Record of safe driving for the last five years as shown on current MVR, with no serious accidents or traffic violations
- OEM Master Tech certifications.
REQUIRED LICENSES & CERTIFICATIONS
- Valid Class C driver’s license;
- Safe driving record for the past three years
