Description

The Team Kentucky Internship Program was established to bring talented and motivated college students into the world of public service. The program provides meaningful and relevant work experience, professional development activities, and offers interns networking opportunities with other interns across the Commonwealth, all while working alongside state government officials.

The Team Kentucky Internship Program is designed to be a prestigious and competitive program; therefore, interested applicants must complete an online application and be vetted through an interview process. Those selected for the program will perform valuable work in our state agencies.

To be considered for a position in the Team Kentucky Internship Program, candidates must:

  • Be enrolled at an accredited Kentucky post-secondary school or other educational institution approved by the Kentucky Personnel Cabinet.
  • Be in good standing with the school with at least a 2.5 grade point average at hire.

About Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet:

The mission of the Kentucky Energy & Environment Cabinet (EEC) is to improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians by protecting our land, air, and water resources by utilizing our natural resources in an environmentally conscientious manner. We do this by helping families connect with nature and preserving the Commonwealth’s natural heritage; and by supporting innovative, resilient, and sustainable energy solutions that together bring economic benefit to the commonwealth.

If you are looking for a positive work environment and a career where you can make a difference in the environment we live in, then EEC is the cabinet for you. For more information on what our cabinet has to offer, check out our YouTube page https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCWSuC43XqlHchYeQ66tP7tg and our Careers page https://eec.ky.gov/Pages/careers.aspx

Key Responsibilities include:

  • Gain an understanding of the types of environmental data that are collected and used by DOW.
  • Become familiar with water infrastructure and state regulations.
  • Participate in project planning and coordination activities.
  • Gain experience working in a collaborative environment with professional engineers and scientists.
  • Assist engineers with ongoing projects related to water infrastructure.

TKIP participants will receive additional compensation ($1/hour) for each year that they return to the TKIP, after previously completing the program.

What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Be dependable: Ensure that you follow your designated work schedule and meet deadlines. Communicate with your supervisor ahead of time if you are unable to follow your work schedule or if you need further support to meet a deadline.
  • Take initiative: Look for ways to go above and beyond in your day-to-day to show your co-workers and supervisor that you are a self-motivated problem solver.
  • Be a learner: Seek out new opportunities to learn about your state agency and state government. Ask for feedback on your performance – this will show you are receptive and searching for opportunities to grow. Ask questions if you are unsure how to complete an assigned task.
