Join a nationally significant recovery effort advancing a resilient, healthy Maui community. This role supports postdisaster rebuilding by aligning water, reuse, wastewater, stormwater, watershed, and cultural and historic resource outcomes under a unified One Water approach. You will serve as part of a multidisciplinary team, translating complex recovery challenges into actionable strategies through effective facilitation, engagement, and crossagency coordination that directly supports community rebuilding and longterm sustainability.

Working alongside County leadership and partners, you will help advance standardized recovery operations, governance, and engagement practices that promote transparency, informed decisionmaking, and delivery of resilient infrastructure. This work supports Maui’s longterm recovery and climate resilience goals while ensuring that rebuilding efforts strengthen essential systems and community outcomes.

Job Summary

The TC1, Environmental Engineering role will support a broad range of tasks related to the analysis, planning, and development of solutions that promote environmental protection, water use sustainability, and responsible water resource management. Working under the close supervision of a professional engineer, this role will contribute to technical work that improves environmental and public health outcomes across natural and engineered systems. This engineering position will address environmental and public health protection, mitigation and prevention degradation of water, soils, air quality, and habitats. This role may work in one or more diverse areas including water and wastewater treatment and conveyance, stormwater management, solid waste management, hazardous waste management and related areas. This role may conduct analysis, planning, modeling and design of treatment systems, providing results, recommendations, plan sets, or other engineering deliverables.

Responsibilities

  • Understand the big picture and stabilize urgent issued through continuous responsiveness and resourcefulness.
  • Identify ways to unblock stalled projects and progress delayed tasks
  • Provides time-bound delivery support
  • Perform technical analyses and support the identification of potential solutions to sustainable water resource management.
  • Prepare and review detailed reports pertaining to Environmental Engineering.
  • Plan and design effective environmental protection systems to safeguard and enhance public and ecosystem health.
  • Prepare comprehensive, facility, and strategic resource management plans or similar
  • Analyze scientific data and conduct quality control checks to provide plans and recommendations that conform to environmental regulations
  • Provide technical support for environmental projects. Areas of technical support could include modeling of wastewater and drinking water treatment and delivery systems, vendor outreach to support planning and design, technical analysis to support permitting and regulatory approvals, construction administration support, among others.
  • Flexibility to adapt and execute various additional assignments based on evolving needs.

  • Identifies and escalates, and supports stabilization, of urgent issues through project team and program manager.
  • Provides time-bound delivery support through rapid problem-solving, and organized project and issue management.
  • Internal and client cross-department coordination.

experience

  • Typically, a minimum of 0-2 years related work experience in Environmental Engineering or related field.
  • Encouraged to certify in the SMS framework in the first six months of being in the role.

education

  • A bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering or related field is required.

Salary Range: The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Location A: $64,000 – $87,000
Location B: $71,000 – $96,000
Location C: $77,000 – $105,000
