Job Title: Support Clerk – Collision Investigation & Prosecutions Team/Post TeamSalary: The starting salary is £28,741, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.The salary is broken down as £25,900 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £26,154. Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.Location: SidcupWe are looking for individuals to undertake the role of support clerk for our Collision Investigation and Prosecution Teams (CIPT) and our busy Post Room. Both roles require candidates to have basic computer and numeracy skills and be able to work accurately at a fast pace, in order to meet Business needs set timescales. A reasonable level of fitness is required, as both roles involve lifting and for the Post Team administrator role, there will be extended periods of standing whilst operating robust Post Room Machinery.Successful candidates must be prepared to take responsibility for their own development and to undertake further training to improve their knowledge and skills.Key Responsibilities
- To act as support for the investigating officer for personal injury and damage-only collision cases reported by operational Police Officers and self-reported by members of the public.
- You will be responsible for day-to-day office admin functions such as scanning documents, retrieving and archiving files, collecting, sorting and distributing incoming and outgoing mail.
- Liaising with insurance companies and Solicitors, ensuring that police reports, where civil actions are being contemplated, are expedited in accordance with policies.
- Handling incoming and outgoing Royal Mail deliveries, Special Deliveries, and Internal Despatch Mail.
- Processing all Special and Recorded Mail deliveries (around 1000 items per day)
- Operate heavy duty Post Room Machinery to envelope and Frank all outgoing mail (approx. 10,000 items a day) in a timely manner whilst complying with Royal Mail’s Business Mail requirements.
- List all payments and Driving licences received in accordance with audit requirements.
- Scan Notices of Intended Prosecution and correspondence to the correct department.
- Maintain a safe working environment by keeping work areas clean and tidy, this includes:
- Shredding large amounts of confidential waste.
- Assisting colleagues from other departments with their CIPT and Post Room queries.
- Any other administrative task as directed.

- Have a high level of integrity.
- Demonstrate good customer service skills, in order to provide a professional service to both internal and external customers, in line with MPS policy and legislative requirements.
- Demonstrate the ability to work accurately whilst under pressure in order to comply with Business need set timescales. The jobholder will need to manage and prioritise their workload, rapidly establishing the importance and urgency of any information provided. This will be in accordance with prescribed Criminal Justice timelines and GDPR guidelines.
- Be an effective communicator. You will be required to liaise with other departments within the MPS, external agencies and members of the public. Experience in the production of clear, concise accurate statements and reports is desirable.
- To work in a fast-paced environment either on your own or as part of a Team, demonstrating the ability to work unsupervised on your own or as part of a team.
- Be computer literate with a working knowledge of Outlook and Excel and general keyboard skills.
- Have a reasonable level of fitness: you will be required to lift mailboxes, archive case files, push heavy metal cage trollies and stand for extended periods of time whilst operating heavy duty Post Room machinery.
- Demonstrate a methodical and flexible approach to work and be willing to adapt to any changes within the role.
