Role ResponsibilitiesDo you have a passion for working with vulnerable youth? Is this your life path? If so, become a Recreation Therapist Supervisor at our Yellowhead Youth Provincial Campus Based Care (PCBC) Centre and share the vision of building “strong children, youth, families and communities where children and youth are valued, nurtured and loved”.The Edmonton Provincial Campus Based Care (PCBC) is a campus-based treatment facility for youth with significant trauma based emotional and behavioral issues.The primary goal of this position will be to educate, restore, maintain, and support the recovery of youth that promotes quality of life and informed decision making. Services will foster an environment for growth and development, providing opportunities for community access and meaningful activities and support at Provincial Campus Based Care (PCBC). The Recreation Therapist Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and support to Recreation Therapists across all Provincial Campus Based Care (PCBC) sites. The Recreation Therapist Supervisor ensures that service delivery to each individual is according to the care plan and goals. Working from a trauma informed perspective and strong knowledge and understanding of Indigenous Culture and importance of cultural and community connections.The incumbent will work as part of a multi-interdisciplinary team to develop a youth’s individual care plan that will include those recreational therapy services overseen by the incumbent.Your responsibilities will include but not limited to:
- Provide expertise, guidance, direction, coaching and mentoring to the recreation therapists through monthly performance conversations, worksite meetings and presentations.
- Provide ongoing education to Provincial Campus Based Care (PCBC) staff (wage, permanent and leadership) on current activities available.
- Provide input into policy development and implementation and ensuring the coordination of services.
- Collaborate and engage with community partners to provide youth with opportunities for recreational activities.
- Oversee the budget for the team, monitor expenditure requests and review submission requests from recreation team and prioritize with Manager.
- Monitor attendance, discuss issues as they arise and action plans as necessary.
- Assessing overall functioning of recreation therapy portfolio in each worksite which may occur through direct observations of activities occurring within the home, attendance at meetings, feedback from various stakeholders and follow up as required.
- Reviewing all personal expense claims from recreation team.

QualificationsA Degree in Recreation Therapy, Recreation Administration or Physical Education and four (4) years of related experience required. Candidate with supervisory experience will be preferred.A cover letter outlining how your experience relates to the qualifications of this role is required.Other requirements:
- Candidates must have current First Aid or Aquatic First Aid
- The successful candidate must possess or be in the process of attaining a National Lifeguard Services (NLS) certification.
Preference will be given to those with:
- Directly related experience in a campus-based treatment setting with youth 12-17 with emotional/behavioral issues
- Experience working with Indigenous youth and families
