Co-op and WIL give students an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Department of Arts and Science Co-op is responsible for preparing over 3000 00 undergraduate students from 58 academic areas to compete for paid co-op work term opportunities. The department is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university co-op programming contribute to the development of well qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.Your opportunity:Working under the general direction of the Assistant Director, Student Services, the Co-op Student Success & Program Coordinator is a key part of the Student Services Team in the Department and is responsible for: interpreting and advising co-op students on University co-op program requirements, policies and procedures and supporting the development and delivery of programming to co-op students to increase and maintain their engagement in the program. The incumbent works with a team of dedicated staff to support student success in the Arts & Science Co-op Program. The Co-op Student Success & Program Coordinator advises students, individually and in groups, and proactively refers them, if necessary, to other student services on campus; supports the administration of the program; makes recommendations for process improvements; and participates in the development and executing of in-person/online events for co-op students.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on program and/or course matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual’s background
  • Responding to enquiries within the defined scope of the role and redirecting as appropriate
  • Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
  • Coordinating course timetables
  • Liaising with students and faculty to coordinate program activities
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
  • Maintaining information on digital platforms
  • Analyzing service delivery and/or internal processes and recommending improvements

Essential Qualifications:

  • University degree or acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of four (4) years’ of undergraduate student advising preference for within an academic program, faculty/academic department or academic advising/career center, event organization and management, and related administrative experience in post-secondary environment. Experience in a co-op setting is an asset.
  • Experience training and supervising volunteers or staff
  • Experience with the University’s Student Information System ROSI (Repository of Student Information)/ACORN, Degree Navigator or a similar database system is required
  • Demonstrable expertise with learning management systems (ie. Blackboard, Canvas) is required

  • Excellent computer skills as applied to databases, spreadsheets, word processing and demonstrable experience with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) are essential

  • Highly developed analytical skills with a good eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment
  • Tact, judgment and patience in dealing with students and other stakeholders and in interpreting and applying policies and procedures
  • Initiative and ability to work under pressure
  • Particularly strong ability to weigh and balance multiple perspectives, needs, priorities and deadlines

  • Demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills
