DescriptionThe starting salary for this role is £35,730 per annum, working 36 hours per week.We are hiring a new Street Works Officer to join our fantastic Street Works team. The Street Works Compliance team are part of Surrey Highways and sits within the wider Street Works team.The team is based in Leatherhead, and you will work on a hybrid basis, mostly working on site and then carrying out your administration in the office or at home. Although working remotely, our team work cohesively and will support each other on a day-to-day basis sharing their problems and resolutions.Rewards and Benefits

About the RoleEach Street Works Officer is assigned a geographical area within Surrey where they will be responsible for monitoring works on our network.A normal day will include, but is not limited to, inspecting ‘live site’ works including those on our lane rental network, assisting residents who may be experiencing problems, checking reinstatement quality against the engineering specifications set out by the Department for Transport and investigating sites causing high levels of congestion.As a Street Works Officer your day will begin by interrogating software systems to gain a complete picture of the inspections that are available and required to be completed that day. In particular, identifying those works which are a high priority, on our most traffic sensitive routes, and most likely to cause disruption. You will also read/ respond to the enquiries from our residents and aim to create an efficient inspection route that will include any areas requiring a site visit, relating to those enquiries.The bulk of the day will be spent in your geographical area of cover and will include carrying out those prioritised inspections and investigating the residents’ enquiries. Every day varies and will present its own challenges and rewards as you work with others to resolve traffic management problems, improve their works layout for safety or to reduce congestion. At the end of your working day, you will tidy up any ‘loose ends’ of administration and prepare for your next day.Shortlisting CriteriaTo be considered for shortlisting for this position, your application will clearly evidence the following:

  • Experience of auditing street works or road works to the Safety at Street Works and Road Works, a Code of Practice 2013 (Red Book)
  • Experience of inspecting highway reinstatements by statutory undertakers to the Specification for the Reinstatement of Openings in the Highway 2020 (SRoH)
  • A sound working knowledge of the publications above
  • A high standard of written communication and the ability to provide detailed, accurate and empathetic responses to requests for information in a customer service environment
  • The ability to consistently and accurately record information in accordance with detailed processes
  • The ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of colleagues
