| Primary Purpose of Department | The mission of Facilities Management is to provide a quality learning, research, and living environment for the benefit of students, faculty, staff, and the community by planning, building, operating, and maintaining the campus of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. |
| Primary Purpose of Position | The Stormwater Engineer serves as the University’s technical expert for managing the campus stormwater infrastructure, associated engineering models, asset inventory, and monitoring equipment. The scope of these campus systems encompass stormwater control measures (SCMs), underground vaults, pipe networks, inlet structures, roadway and foundation drainage, and associated earthworks and hardscape. Critical foci of this role are tracking the campus Built Upon Area (BUA) footrprint, reviewing capital projects, and collaborating with other University departments to guide land use decisions. As the subject matter expert on subject matter expert on stormwater regulatory compliance and related civil engineering, the Stormwater Engineer will report to the Director of Asset Management within FM and assist the broader engineering team with strategic stormwater and linear asset management across campus. |
| Summary of Position Responsibilities | The Stormwater Engineer acts as the University’s technical expert and owner’s representative for the management, modeling, and regulatory oversight of campus stormwater infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of Asset Management, the role focuses on maintaining the long-term integrity of civil site elements-including SCMs, pipe networks, and dams-while guiding sustainable land-use decisions through meticulous data tracking. | Minimum education/experience |
|
| Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experience | Advanced Education: Master’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering with a focus on Water Resources. Technical Proficiency: 5 to 10 years of progressive professional experience demonstrating some or all of the following:

| Necessary Certifications/Licenses | Valid Driver’s License required (for site visits and field inspections). |
| Preferred Certifications/Licenses | Professional Engineer (PE) License: Highly preferred at the time of hire to provide technical authority for document review and regulatory representation. SCM Inspection Certification: State-specific certification for the inspection and maintenance of Stormwater Control Measures. Certified Professionals in Erosion and Sediment Control (CPESC): Or equivalent state-level erosion and sedimentation control inspector certification. Experience: A minimum of 5 years of professional experience specifically related to stormwater engineering. |
