Salary: $4,865.00 – $6,539.00 Monthly

The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has an exciting opportunity within our Forest Resilience Division. The Forest Resilience Division is responsible for the assessment, planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of forest health-related activities across all lands that work to restore and sustain the ecological functions of Washington’s forested landscapes. The Planning, Science, and Monitoring Section provides critical forest health insect and disease monitoring, technical assistance, and planning to analyze forest health and resiliency treatment needs statewide.
This position will serve as the technical expert for treatment monitoring at the project level and primary trainer for data collection protocols. This senior-level specialist is responsible for implementing forest health multi-party stand and project-level monitoring in support of the 20-Year Forest Health Strategic Plan Monitoring Framework in eastern Washington, the Forest Action Plan, and Collaborative Forest Landscape Restoration Program (CFLRP) on United States Forest Service land ownership. This position will evaluate and manage unit-level monitoring projects on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest (OWNF), Colville National Forest (CNF), and other landownerships. This position will work collaboratively with relevant DNR staff, and federal, state, tribal, and external partners to coordinate, implement, and report findings from multi-party stand and project-level monitoring assessments of forest health conditions, including ecological outcomes from prescribed burning, mechanical treatment, and wildfire.
Most of this position’s work will be directed by US Forest Service staff on the OWNF and the CNF. This is a project position (limited duration with the potential for renewal or extension).
