We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled security staff engineer / leader to join our newly formed Security and Reliability Organization. This role is a hybrid between Security Operations and Site Reliability Engineering, focusing on building secure, reliable, and scalable systems. You will play a key role in ensuring that our infrastructure is not only resilient and performant but also secure from external and internal threats. As a Staff Engineer, you will lead complex projects, mentor junior engineers, and work cross-functionally to embed security into every aspect of our infrastructure and operations.At Datadog, we place value in our office culture – the relationships and collaboration it builds and the creativity it brings to the table. - Lead efforts in identifying potential security vulnerabilities and work proactively to prevent them. Implement security best practices, tools, and controls to protect the integrity of our systems.
- Drive the resolution of critical security incidents, including forensic analysis, root cause identification, and post-mortem reviews to ensure continuous improvement.
- Lead multiple technical efforts to automate security controls, monitoring, and incident response to increase coverage and reduce manual efforts.
- Work closely with the compliance organization to ensure systems meet compliance requirements and support automating these checks where applicable.
- Collaborate closely with other SRE staff engineers to design, build, and maintain high-availability, fault-tolerant systems to ensure security is account for in building reliable systems.
- Collaborate with the broader SRE team to resolve incidents that impact system reliability and security. Conduct detailed post-incident reviews to reduce time to recovery and prevent future issues.
- Work closely with the core observability team
- Work closely with DevOps, Development, and Security teams to embed security into CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure as code (IaC), and other operational processes.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers, establishing best practices in security and reliability. Provide strategic direction for our offensive security practices, security incident response.
- Lead large-scale projects aimed at improving the security, reliability, and scalability of the company’s infrastructure. Ensure that deliverables are met within agreed-upon timelines.
Who You Are:
- Strong knowledge of information security principles, including risk management, threat modeling, incident response, and security architecture.
- Familiarity with security tools such as SIEM, CSPM, vulnerability scanners.
- Experience with security automation tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
- Experience building, securing and maintaining scalable, fault-tolerant systems in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Expertise in monitoring, alerting, and observability tools.
- Strong understanding of system architecture, cloud security, networking, load balancing, and performance tuning.
- Experience with infrastructure as code
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects, mentor team members, and provide technical leadership.
- Problem-solving mindset with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks.
