Join a top employer and advance your career. Aplin has partnered with an Edmonton based-company to hire SQL and Query Specialist on a contract basis to support our platform migration efforts. The ideal candidate will have in depth knowledge of ERD, advance SQL and scripting skills to transform data, subqueries, aggregation, filters, joining tables or all of these features combined. While being adept at understanding and working with both legacy and new database schemas.This is a contract role expected to last approximately 3 – 6 months, with the possibility of extension based on project needs.Responsibilities:

• Develop, optimize, and execute SQL scripts for data extraction.
• Perform advanced queries on databases to support data extraction and analysis, ensuring data integrity and accuracy.
• Analyze legacy data structures, table relationships, and data dependencies to inform the data mapping and transformation processes.
• Collaborate with business analysts, data architects, and other stakeholders to understand business requirements and how data should be structured in the new system.
• Document data extraction and transformation processes, including any modifications or challenges encountered.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data extraction and migration to ensure data is correctly represented in the target system.
• Provide support in testing migrated data to confirm that it aligns with specifications and expected outcomes in the new system.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in SQL scripting and data extraction with a focus on complex queries and large datasets.
• Strong understanding of database tables, data structures, and dependencies within relational databases.
• Familiarity with data migration processes, especially moving data from legacy systems to modern systems.
• Ability to analyze and map legacy data formats to new structures.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills for clear documentation and collaboration with team members.

Preferred:

• Experience with SQL and MySQL
• Experience with ETL tools or data migration platforms.
• Familiarity with specific legacy systems is a plus.
