Solution Architects create IT architecture & design solutions based on business requirements, industry trends, and technology options. Solution Architects are responsible and accountable for the solution architecture creation in partnership with Enterprise Architects, Domain Architects, and Engineering teams. Solution Architects partner with the delivery team for solution planning, delivery, detailed design and implemented solutions. Solution Architects ensure the implemented solutions are consistent with the approved architecture. Solution Architects communicate, mentor, and lead teams based on program or project needs for solution delivery.

This individual will be responsible for working closely with other Solution Architects in Merchandising and for supporting all Merchandising Products that require design and use of GCP and Azure cloud environments. Cloud operations are a focus to deliver innovative solutions that will drive sales and optimize operations.

ROLE

• Sets the strategic vision for a multi-cloud platform, aligning with organization goals. Provides leadership in guiding the overall direction of cloud technical initiatives.
• Stays up-to-date with emerging GCP and Azure cloud technologies and assess their applicability to Merchandise Products.
• Provides strategic insights and recommendations based on data to support decision-making.
• Designs, develops and ensures compliance to architectural standards throughout the lifecycle.
• Analyzes the Business-IT environment (run, grow, and transform the business) to detect critical deficiencies, and recommend solutions for improvement (systems of record, differentiation, and innovation).
• Identifies aging technology issues, or misalignment, with business requirements, and proposes modernization solutions.
• Partners with Enterprise/Domain/Solution Architects for roadmaps and reference architecture.
• Executes projects and initiatives on the Merchandise roadmap in partnership with Solution Architects, Product Managers, and Development teams.
• Ensures cohesiveness of solution designs across various products/solutions in Merchandising.
• Collaborates with Enterprise Architects to balance between requirements of Solution Architectural Guardrails and Product requirements.
• Designs, develops, and directs cloud architectures, design exceptions, and governance activities in compliance with target states, reference architectures, architecture standards, technology guardrails, and security and operational guidelines.
• Identifies the organizational impact (skills, processes, structures, or culture) and financial impact of cloud solutions architecture designs.
• Creates non-functional requirements for operational agility, disaster recovery, agility, scalability and support.
• Establishes solution delivery flow for continuous integration, testing and delivery, and operational deployment in partnership with delivery managers, development leads and other stakeholders.
• Conducts design and cost optimization reviews to validate alignment with cloud standards and environment clean up.
• Modifies cloud solution architecture to support changing business or technology requirements.
• Documents cloud architecture design and analysis work, and communicates architectural decisions that impact solutions.
• Defines cloud principles, guidelines, standards, and solution patterns to ensure decisions are aligned with Merchandising and the enterprise’s future-state architecture cloud vision.
• Communicates cloud infrastructure and solution concepts to all levels of management.
• Designs cloud methodology that consistently yields the right level of technical design documentation and develops technical solutions that conform both to customer requirements and information development standards.
• Adheres to Costco’s Architectural Framework and Governance model.
• Collaborates with other Merchandise solution architects to contribute to product and platform roadmaps.
• Collaborates with Value Stream leaders and product teams to maintain 3+ year architecture roadmaps.
• Collaborates with product teams to maintain logical and physical architecture documentation.
• Participates and contributes to innovation brainstorming and implementation.

REQUIRED

• 10+ years’ experience:
• Architecting and supporting the delivery of complex, enterprise cloud solutions.
• Engineering or software development using various cloud technologies such as Azure, GCP.
• Designing large scale cloud integration solutions, including security and compliance.
• Establishing and Implementing design patterns for the Applications.
• Demonstrated proficiency in advanced networking technologies and concepts as it relates to multi cloud infrastructure.
• Enterprise IT experience in solutioning, designing, development, and delivering computer systems.
• Hands-on solutions architecture experience with COTS package integration experience.
• Skills in leadership, relationship building, negotiation, collaboration, advocacy, governance, and consensus building.
• Knowledge of IT Application architecture, and Design methodologies across multiple platforms.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills (facilitation, negotiation, influence and conflict resolution) at all levels.
• Ability to translate technical ideas/designs to multiple audiences, including Executives.
• Proven ability to work effectively within a large organization that operates using a matrix organization.
• Thorough understanding of and experience with multiple SDLC methods such as waterfall, SCRUM, and/or Agile.
• Ability to communicate trade-offs and transactional states with technical and business teams.
• Ability to make architecture changes in a dynamic agile environment.

Recommended

• Experience with DevOps technologies such as Git, ADO, Pipelines Configuration, Terraform, SonarQube.
• Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365.
• Experience with Angular, React, Node JS, Java, C#, X++, or equivalent.
• Experience with Power Platform.
• Experience with any ETL tool.

Pay Ranges:

Level 2 – $120,000 – $155,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level 3 – $145,000 – $180,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible

Level 4 – $175,000 – $230,000, Bonus and Restricted Stock Unit (RSU) eligible
