We seek one motivated seasonal wildlife technician to assist the Fish and Wildlife Research Institute of FWC with monitoring nesting shorebirds in coastal Florida. We are looking to fill this position ASAP.

The incumbent’s primary duties will involve working with a team to search via boat for breeding pairs, monitoring shorebird and seabird nests, banding of shorebirds, performing band re-sight surveys, disturbance surveys, predator tracking surveys, data entry, photo evaluation, and maintaining protected nesting habitat. The position is based in Gainesville, a small college town and home to the University of Florida. Salary for these positions is $18.50/ hour with a 40-hour work week. The ideal candidates would be available to start March 2026 and continue through September 2026 (exact start and end dates are flexible). Housing is provided for a small rental fee (~$150). Review of applications begins immediately and hiring will take place as soon as a qualified candidate is found.

  • Close attention to detail, excellent organization and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Flexibility with out of town travel
