Description:
The Introduction to Caribbean Studies seminar, is designed to support TYP students enrolled in CAR120Y1 to identify key information in lecture and provide a thorough understanding of course material and assignments. The seminar will further explore Caribbean history, literature and thought which deal with a wide range of issues including gender, religion, politics, culture, ethnicity, race, development, language, colonialism and regional common markets. Your duties as governed by Article 7:03 of the Collective Agreement between the Governing Council of the University of Toronto and the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) 3902 Unit 3 will include:
Qualifications: Completed or nearly completed Ph.D in Caribbean Studies or related discipline with course work and/or extensicee research in this area. Possess in-depth knowledge of Transitional Year Programme (TYP) student supports, curriculum, and culture. Demonstrated commitment to equity and anti-oppressive/social-justice approaches to education. Familiarity with Quercus and online/remote instructional methods.
Preferred Qualifications: Teaching experience at the university level preferred. Previous work experience, and/or coursework relating to anti-oppression and/or social-justice approaches to post-secondary education. In-depth knowledge of the University of Toronto community and University of Toronto student experience an asset. Knowledge of/experience with adult education and the University of Toronto. Experience advising students and providing academic support.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
