Description:

This module will equip students with an understanding of different leadership styles, people management, and how to lead a team. It will include an opportunity for students to discover their leadership preferences, as well as their tendencies under stress or adverse conditions. Self-awareness regarding one’s strengths/weaknesses, motivations, and tendencies are vital for effective leadership, and a leader’s ability to adapt to different teams and environments. Equally as important is to understand how others see you as a leader. To this end, students will conduct a 360 to gather anonymous feedback from peers, supervisors, and subordinates (where applicable).

Learning Objectives

At the end of this course, students should be able to demonstrate:

• A self-awareness of their leadership strengths and weaknesses;
• Knowledge of what motivates them to act and how to motivate others;
• An understanding of their tendencies under stress or adverse conditions and how to manage them for different pressures; and
• Increased comprehension of how others perceive them as a leader, and tactics to improve and develop into the leader they aspire to be.

Estimated course enrollment: ~ 30 students

Class schedule: 2-hour seminar-style workshops; occurring Thursdays (time to be confirmed)

Sessional Lecturer I – $4,910.35

Sessional Lecturer I – Long Term – $5,255.02

Sessional Lecturer II – $5,255.02

Sessional Lecturer II – Long Term – $5,380.14

Sessional Lecturer III – $5,380.14

Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term – $5,515.18

Minimum qualifications: Masters degree with equivalent professional and/or academic experience is preferred.

Description of duties: Preparation and delivery of course content, including seminars; creation of courseware; the development and administration of assignments, marking and evaluation of proposals, reports and reflections, maintenance of reasonable hours of student contact outside of scheduled contact hours, supervision of day-to-day work of project groups.
