The course provides the required actionable tools to move from opportunity identification to idea generation and successfully launch health businesses. This course further provides the best practices and tools for implementing innovation, such as customer-focused innovation, storytelling, and influence. Health innovations and new venture creation course is further developed to assist students in identifying the difference between a business idea and a potential innovative business opportunity. Also, health innovations and new venture creation contribute to new venture value propositions and communicate ideas and concepts effectively. In addition, this course helps an assessment process for a new health venture to determine its desirability, feasibility, viability and sustainability. In this regard, topics in this course affect how an entrepreneur develops practical strategies for exploiting business opportunities and resourcing new venture creation and development.The University of Toronto instructor will be co-facilitating the course with their KNUST counterpart. Partnering University: Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana.Estimated course enrollment: ~ 30 studentsEstimated TA support: not applicableClass schedule: Virtual + In-person 3-hour seminar-style sessions; occurring from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM EST Every Monday, January 13th, 2025 – March 24th, 2025.Sessional dates of appointment: January 1, 2025 – March 30, 2025Salary (0.5 FCE):Sessional Lecturer I – $9,457.90

Sessional Lecturer III – Long Term – $10,570.02Please note that should rates stipulated in the collective agreement vary from rates stated in this posting, the rates stated in the collective agreement shall prevail.Minimum qualifications: Master’s Degree or higher in Health Sciences or a related field.Preferred qualifications: Previous experience in teaching, project management, new healthcare venture creation, translational research, field research and student evaluation.Description of duties: The instructor(s) will be responsible for achieving the course objectives: Equip students with strategies to leverage business opportunities and develop new health ventures. Clarify the distinction between a business idea and an innovative health business opportunity. Provide skills to validate potential health ventures based on students’ ideas. Assist in assessing the desirability, feasibility, viability, and sustainability of new health ventures.
