Course Number and Title: FAH488H1S Considering Sustainable Textiles and Fashions in the Age of Climate Crisis
Course Description: This seminar looks at historic and contemporary global thinking about the production and consumption of textiles and fashions within the current climate change crisis, and over-production due to fast fashion. We question the notion of “in” and “out” of Western seasonal style and look at historic models to understand new economies of scale and value, issues of labour and natural resources. Through lectures, workshops, and seminars, the class will consider how to harness past models to attain the future of textiles and fashion and the context surrounding the 3 R’s, reduce, reuse and recycle.

Class Schedule: Tuesdays 2:00pm – 4:00pm (In Person)
Sessional Dates of Appointment: January 5, 2026 to April 30, 2026; Final Assessment period April 9 – 30, 2026.

Description of Duties: All normal duties related to the design and teaching of a University credit course, including: preparing and delivering two 2-hour lectures per week; developing and publishing the syllabus and marking scheme through Quercus; preparing relevant assignments for student assessment, and (if applicable) setting and invigilating term tests and final examination/assignments for student assessment; grading and reporting of final grades; maintaining office hours for academic counseling of students; answer queries by email or appointment.

Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
Please note: Undergraduate or graduate students and postdoctoral fellows of the University of Toronto are covered by the CUPE 3902 Unit 1 collective agreement rather than the Unit 3 collective agreement, and should not apply for positions posted under the Unit 3 collective agreement.
