- Recruitment range: $65,860- $72,607 starting salary determined by the PEA Collective Agreement.
- Performance range: $85,633 salary range ceiling is available through annual performance increases.
Job SummaryReporting to the Associate Director, Research Grants, ORS and the Dean of Education or delegate, this position serves as the pre-award grants administrator and provides information, advice, education, assistance, and expertise in the preparation of grant proposals submitted by researchers through the Faculty, to all intra- and extramural funding sources. In addition to identifying and promoting a wide variety of funding opportunities to researchers in the Faculty, the RGF provides timely and thorough reviews of funding applications prior to their submission to ORS and aids researchers with developing budgets and crafting of other key application components. The RGF also helps ensure that applications follow applicable funding agency and university policies, regulations, and requirements before submission, providing guidance to researchers with regards to compliance. The RGF also organizes training, prepares and disseminates resources, and provides mentorship to aid researchers in the preparation of successful applications.The RGF helps showcase and recognize research undertaken in the Faculty through assisting with research awards, events and publications, and the nomination of faculty members for awards and recognitions supported by the Dean’s Office. The RGF also provides coordination of Faculty-specific research support programs, such as the Grant Application Assistance Program, the Graduate Student Travel Fund, the Research Engagement Fund, and specialized, often one-time, research initiatives.Job RequirementsA Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline (Education is preferred) with demonstrated related experience, or an equivalent of education, training and experience. Experience must include research, ethics applications, grant writing, data collection and analysis.Knowledge requirements include:
- Familiarity with university research policies and sponsored research administration
- Work experience in a university, foundation or granting agency setting is preferred

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and collaboratively in a team environment
- Strong leadership, facilitation, organizational and client services skills

- Ability to use discretion and maintain confidentiality when required
- Proficiency with information/communication technologies (web-searches/email/word processing/spreadsheets/database skills).
Required Competencies:The ability to autonomously develop efficient and effective strategies is important in order to effectively problem solve, prioritize, and manage the administrative process of an increasing workload.A thorough understanding of the pre-award process is required to be able to clarify and focus on what the current, pertinent issues are with the ability to problem solve once the issue has been identified.Success requires the ability to coordinate projects, multitask, and manage sensitive timelines for the accomplishment of objectives that have significant financial impact.To ensure compliance and adherence to necessary UVic and agency requirements, the incumbent must possess the ability to independently process and interpret written policy and guidelines.Superior writing and editing skills and a high degree of computer expertise in order to function effectively using the campus and Faculty’s centralized systems.In order to assure the timely and accurate flow of proposals through the UVic system, a thorough understanding of institutional policies, procedures, rules and practices is necessary for successful performance in this position.
