Job Description
The Remote Hospitality Program Manager directs the activities of those involved in providing a variety of industrial housekeeping services, provides a broad variety of cleaning projects and services required to maintain the cleanliness, efficiency, and livability of various commercial/industrial facilities, and operates and directs the activities of a commissary facility. Additional responsibilities of equal importance are the management of a camp staff, training compliance and new technology integration. Procurement, inventory and budget are an integral part in this role. All duties are to be performed in accordance with NMS’ mission, vision, and values as well as departmental policies, practices, and procedures.
Responsibilities
Housekeeping Program Management
- Directs and coordinates the delivery of the housekeeping and janitorial program at assigned camps.
- Functions as a primary resource for NMS housekeeping, janitorial and commissary personnel in remote camp settings.
- Implements and executes quality programs, including performing spot inspections.
- Monitors and ensures compliance with all appropriate regulatory requirements such as SDS availability, HazCom, PPE use, etc.
- Coordinate associated equipment care and maintenance.
- Ensure adequate inventory of supply at all times.
- Regularly conduct facility inspections to maintain the quality of provided services.
- Identifies, resolves, or appropriately reports worksite safety hazards.
- Conduct safety and tool box meetings and ensures daily operations are in compliance with company and client safety requirements.
- Reviews and responds to comments received through NMS’ camp comments tool regarding NMS’ food service program and offerings.
Commissary Management
- Review and enforce commissary operating policy and procedure.
- Utilize commissary systems and be a resource for commissary staff on the systems.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of inventory, performing audits as directed.
- Ensure commissary merchandising follows guidelines.
- Review and approve orders.
- Responsible for managing daily sales and deposits.
- Work with procurement manager to ensure appropriate items are ordered.
- Resolve vendor issues in conjunction with procurement manager.
Personnel Management
- This position is responsible for the interviewing, hiring, training, supervision and termination of all housekeeping, janitorial and commissary staff at assigned camps.
- Manages unit scheduling and various travel requests.
- Provide recognition, counseling and discipline to assigned staff maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Assists staff in the resolution of work related difficulties.
- Enforces quality standards and work procedures for staff.
- Implements training programs and ensures staff completes assigned training by the determined time.
- Performs annual performance reviews of all housekeeping, janitorial and commissary service employees.
- Works with employees and their direct supervisors to create development plans.
- Acts as a resource to supervisors/leads in managing their direct reports, ensuring they understand NMS policy and procedure on managing employees.
- Trains new staff and provides ongoing training to existing staff.
- Plans and prepares work schedules and assignments.
Operations/Business Management
- Complete accounting, safety, or administrative documentation or record keeping.
- Approves staff payroll documents, payables, etc.
- Personally resolve minor maintenance or client emergencies as they occur or take steps to permanently address them.
- Responsible for delivering on and tracking KPIs to NMS management and Client.
- Complete assigned supply orders and billings, reviewing and approving invoices in NMS accounting system.
- Works with the Safety department to ensure all JSA and THA support materials are accurate, up to date and accessible to all employees.
- Works with Procurement Manager to research new products, manage quality of existing products and ensure quality compliance.
- Implements and enforces NMS operating procedures that currently exist and those that will be developed.
- Meets with clients/customers to maintain business relationships, market products in conjunction with the procurement manager, and resolves problems and keep open all forms of communication.
Other Duties
- Responsible for implementing new technology services to create efficiencies and streamline processes for remote camps housekeeping and janitorial operations.
- Work with operations team on start up for new contracts and re-bid on existing contracts, including establishing cost and manpower templates, developing menus and scope of work.
- Responsible for advancing all elements of NMS performance excellence strategy in the context of continuous improvement.
- Responsible for facilitating and supporting a “One Team” relationship dynamic within the NMS organization.
- Supports an active and comprehensive safety and CI program.
- Consistently demonstrates remarkable skills in structuring assigned activities, management teamwork, communications, and operational efficiencies, handling of changing business needs, decision making, and problem-solving skills.
- Other duties that are pertinent to the department or unit’s success also may be assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by formal training, or equivalent experience.
- At least ten (10) years verifiable management experience in housekeeping, janitorial or service industry.
- This experience must demonstrate a working knowledge of cleaning processes and equipment; training and providing direction to staff; and involvement in or advanced knowledge of corporate safety programs.
- A valid Driver’s License and an acceptable driving record for the past three (3) years to be eligible under NMS’ vehicle insurance policy
- Must have intermediate skills operating Microsoft Office applications.
- Must pass all pre-employment contract requirements which may include but are not limited to: drug test, physical and fit for duty assessment and hearing test. Applicants not located near a testing facility are responsible for paying for travel to the nearest testing facility.
- Must be able to cooperate and work as part of a team with fellow employees, customers and clients.
- Must be able to make decisions in the moment with little to no supervision.
- Must be able to be on your feet for 12 hours per shift for the scheduled rotation.
- Must be able to live in dormitory style settings and meet cleanliness requirements of the remote camp.
- Contract requires employees to speak, understand, read and write English.
- Must meet and adhere to all safety guidelines and regulations set forth by the company and client.
CANDIDATES RESIDING OUTSIDE ANCHORAGE AREA:
Candidates residing in the Lower 48 for any contract and/or hired for the GPB contract: For the purposes of pre-employment testing, Anchorage will be considered the point of hire (with the exception of drug testing, which will be conducted near the candidate’s place of residence). Employee is responsible for any travel expenses and needed accommodations related to pre−employment tasks that need to be completed in Anchorage, AK. This includes, but is not limited to, any safety training requirements, required pre−employment testing and/or training such as physical, DOT physical/medical card, fit for duty, audiogram, and/or other testing required by contract/company (such as NSTC, APICC training, security licensing requirements, etc.
Candidates residing in Alaska for Alyeska and Hilcorp contracts: pre-employment testing will be scheduled near the candidate’s area of residence within the state. The only exception is when the candidate lives in a region without the necessary service providers to complete all requirements.
Flights to Remote Locations: All employees are responsible for all expenses related to reporting to point of hire (Anchorage, AK) for scheduled trips paid for by the company for remote locations.

Weather: Indoor/Outdoor. Frequently exposed to arctic conditions.
Noise level: Moderate to Loud
Description of environment: This is a remote camp setting. Employees must constantly be able to stand, walk, climb, push, pull use hands and arms, stoop, kneel and crouch. Employees are occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and may be exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals.
Travel: This position requires extensive travel to remote sites. Must be able to travel by plane and/or bus to remote camps.
Physical requirements: Fit For Duty Test
- Lift: Lift 35 lbs. from floor to knuckle x2
- Lift: Lift 35 lbs. from floor to waist x 2
- Lift: Lift 8 lbs. from floor to shoulders x 2
- Lift: Lift 8 lbs. from floor to crown level x 2
- Carry: Carry 25 lbs. with two hands for a minimum distance of 50 feet
- Stoop & Twist: Perform alternate cross over toe touches x 5 each side, self-paced but continuous.
- Squat Test: Functionally squat x 5, self-paced but continuous.
- Kneel: Kneel on one knee and stand. Return to kneel on opposite knee. Repeat alternate kneeling sequence x 5 for each knee, self-pace but continuous.
- Stairs: Climb up and down 10 steps x 5 for a total of 50 steps;
- Allow 30 second rest after climbing up and down each set of 25 steps, self-paced.
- Stairs & Carry: Climb up and down 10 steps x 5 for a total of 50 steps while carrying 25 lbs. in one hand and using the other hand to grasp a railing for safety, self-paced.
- Allow a 30 second rest period after climbing up and down 25 steps while carrying.
- Slanted Ladder: Climb a slanted ladder with 2 rungs x 2 repetitions for a total of 4 rungs, self-paced but continuous.
