New Jersey Public Interest Research Group (NJPIRG) Student Chapters is a student-run, student-funded public interest non-profit that has been at Rutgers for over 40 years running campaigns to protect the environment, fight hunger and homelessness, and promote civic engagement.

Every three years, students at Rutgers University reaffirm their decision to fund NJPIRG Student Chapters through a referendum vote. Students at all of the colleges of Rutgers University will have the opportunity to vote, and this year more than 20,000 students will cast their ballots.

We’re hiring Referendum Poll Workers to be responsible for impartially encouraging people to vote and collecting their votes, as required by University Election Rules. Referendum Poll Workers are expected to work at least 8 hours per week and are responsible for:

  • Setting up poll areas on campus
  • Encouraging people to vote, while remaining impartial
  • Verifying the identity of each voter, based on university policy
  • Collecting ballots from voters
  • Accurately tabulating the votes as they are cast
  • Tabulating and validating ballots after voting has completed

Qualifications: We are looking for poll workers who are goal-oriented, detail-oriented, and work well with people. Poll workers need to be able to work at least 8 hours per week. Polling takes place continuously between the hours of 8am and 10pm Monday through Friday, and Saturdays from 9am – 1pm during the referendum this fall.

Locations: New Brunswick, Newark, and Camden

Pay: Poll workers are paid $15.49 per hour

Timeline: Poll workers must be available for work between October 5th – November 25th.
