Job Title: Project Leader (Capsules Making)Location: Port Sunlight Factories (Site Based)JOB PURPOSEUnilever Port Sunlight is a large manufacturing site located on the Wirral in the Northwest of England. The site has 3 Homecare factories and 1 Personal Care factory responsible for the Global supply of multiple products to the markets.Due to continuous innovation programs, we need to increase our project leadership within the Engineering Project Delivery Team.The Project Leader is responsible for the safe and timely implementation of engineering projects within the sourcing units, including design, installation and commissioning of plant and equipment.RESPONSIBILITIES1. Safety

  • To be aware of and understand machinery and process related regulations and standards.
  • To prepare and install engineering designs, in accordance with relevant local legislation, Unilever and site regulations, to ensure inherently safe plant and equipment, proper environmental protection and safety of personnel and the use relevant risk assessment methods.
  • To create and maintain project files and documentation, in line with CDM regulations.
  • To be responsible for ensuring that all incidents are reported and analysed using the proper procedures and resultant actions are implemented
  • To lead or contribute to incident investigations in the work area when required and ensure that all learning’s are cascaded across the teams
  • To ensure that the correct PPE is used by the teams, contractors, leading by example and reinforcing the rules
  • To perform regular site audits and ensure that all audit actions are completed
  • To be familiar with Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA) and HAZOP techniques
  • To have full understand and compliance with the Permit to Work Procedure
  • To have good working knowledge of DSEAR & COMAH regulations.

2. Quality

  • To coordinate main plant trials
  • To be the key innovation contact/representative for the Sourcing Unit
  • To identify critical points to ensure product quality.

3. Customer Service

  • To deliver project contract in terms of budgets, timings and ramp up
  • To agree critical success factors within all levels of factory customers
  • To set and agree, with the relevant people, the realistic targets to ensure innovation/projects is delivered effectively and efficiently
  • To review project and technical implementation and documentation with customer and supplier whilst providing key project updates to the relevant stakeholders.
  • To facilitate the generation and implementation of improvement ideas

4. Cost

  • To manage all capital projects within budget
  • To carry out budgetary control of a project or sub-project

To manage all associated contractors as necessary to carry out the design and implementation of the project. * To provide cost effective solutions for implementation of innovation and infrastructure projects5. Unilever Manufacturing Systems

  • To ensure that the 5S programme is implemented and sustained in project areas

6. Design Engineering and Technical Support

  • To complete the preparation of equipment schedules, cost schedules and project documentation
  • To provide technical assistance to the Manufacturing Operation and BU / BG Engineers as required
  • To ensure the safe installation, testing and commissioning of plant equipment related to the project is completed to time and cost
  • To conduct technical surveys and investigations, as necessary, to enable feasibility studies to be carried out
  • To prepare outline designs and schemes for feasibility studies and project assessment
  • To work with Technical Leader when planning maintenance activities and spare parts strategy.
  • To agree plant modifications that are needed with Technical Leader before they are implemented

7. Ongoing Improvement

  • To assist in establishing best practice through the introduction of relevant Engineering Standards, Specifications, Procedures and Practices
  • To update the relevant project files with the implemented modification and gather learning.

8. Training and Development

  • To work with operational teams and PD Pillar teams to design training/skills matrix for each project

9. Early Equipment Management

  • To use the relevant UMS tools and techniques including Early Equipment Management, to ensure equipment / process works “right first time”
  • To ensure equipment Technical Documentation is updated with all improvements or modifications made
  • To actively lead and involve operational teams in design reviews and “Maintenance Prevention” workshops

10. General

  • To lead a multi-skilled project team, hold the members accountable to deliver each part of the project
  • To lead and manage contractors working on the project
  • To promote a culture of continuous improvement
  • To take responsibility, be skilled, motivated and committed to delivering business objectives and the continual development of people.

  • Qualified to degree standard in an engineering discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience in a Chemical Process Engineering Industry
  • Project Management Qualification or demonstrable project management experience.

Experience requiredEssential

  • Full working knowledge of the relevant industry design standards.
  • Exposure to process automation & control systems eg RS3, Delta V, PCS7
  • Experience in Contractor Management

Proven background in the implementation of process and automation equipment related projects.
