Job Title: Professional Standards – Misconduct Hearings Unit – Case ManagerSalary: The starting salary is £34,147, which includes allowances totalling £2,841.The salary is broken down as £31,306 basic salary, which will increase annually until you reach the top of the scale £35,598. Plus, a location allowance of £1,841 and a non-pensionable allowance of £1,000.Location: Palestra House, SouthwarkJob SummaryTo successfully arrange, facilitate and manage completed internal misconduct investigations through to formal Misconduct Hearings, for police officers and Staff, on behalf of the Metropolitan Police Service.Main Duties include

  • Reviewing new cases from other branches of the Department of Professional Standards and the Independent Office for Police Conduct.
  • Engaging with counsel in order to seek appropriate legal advice.
  • Liaising with the investigating officer/IOPC investigator to ensure case files are completed to the requisite standard and that there is full compliance with disclosure obligations.
  • Preparing briefing notes for the Chief Officer Group (NPCC level).
  • Working with the Directorate of Media Communications to prepare press lines.
  • Liaising with relevant parties including officers/staff, Federation Representatives, Legal Advisors and counsel around the facilitation and logistics of hearings.
  • Serving of Regulatory Notices and appropriate disclosure to relevant parties in accordance with legislated timelines and guidance.
  • Conducting regular reviews of all cases and engaging with line managers regarding concerns around high-risk cases.
  • Liaising with outside agencies and other colleagues such as the IOPC and Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, when necessary.
  • Attending all hearings, representing the Appropriate Authority for the MPS and providing instruction to counsel when necessary.
  • Presenting the Appropriate Authority’s case at an Accelerated Misconduct Hearing to an Assistant Commissioner in a public hearing.
  • Completing all administrative responsibilities throughout each case.

  • Candidates must have previous experience in Police Misconduct Hearings.
  • Case management experience.
  • Ability to deal with personnel at all levels within and outside the organisation; therefore strong communication skills are essential – both written and verbal.
  • Be organised, efficiently prioritise work whilst under pressure.
  • Deliver to strict timelines and deadlines.
  • Ability to scrutinise relevant MPS indices and produce quality written reports via the use of Word, PowerPoint and Excel.

Desirable Criteria

  • You will be representing the Met in Misconduct Hearings which are quasi-judicial and public, so a familiarity with court procedures would be useful but not a requirement.

Additional DetailsThe successful candidate will be required to work mainly from Palestra House but on occasions will work from Sutton, Empress State Building and other locations when operationally necessary.The normal hours of duty will be weekday/office hours.Required LanguagesEnglishReports ToPolice Sergeant or equivalent bandAdditional InformationThe following competencies will be tested against during sift:
