Security Copilot empowers defenders to detect hidden patterns, harden defenses, and respond to incidents faster with generative AI.  While Generative AI has created a new set of possibilities, it’s also created a new set of challenges: hallucination, prompt injection, Security of AI systems etc. Our Cloud Ecosystem Security Team is at the forefront of both the opportunities and the challenges for Microsoft Security.  We are looking for a Principal Group Software Engineering Manager for Security Copilot to drive our mission to bring cutting-edge AI security research projects into the hands of eager customers. This Hybrid Position is located at our Microsoft office in Redmond, Washington. Relocation support will be provided, and successful candidates will need to relocate or reside within 50 miles of the field location. 

Responsibilities

• Lead and grow a high-performing engineering team, fostering a culture of inclusion, innovation, and continuous learning through the Model-Coach-Care leadership approach.
• Drive the development of secure, scalable, and performant generative AI services that translate natural language into KQL and SQL.
• Collaborate with product teams early in the development cycle to shape scenarios and provide technical direction.
• Define and guide architecture, design, and implementation across the full engineering lifecycle.
• Ensure operational excellence through robust testing, monitoring, and live site management.
• Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes effectively to stakeholders and leadership.
• Partner with cross-functional teams, including other engineering managers and first-party teams, to drive plugin and agent development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:  

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience as a people manager, with a track record of leading engineering teams.

Other Requirements:

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:  

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or Preferred Qualifications: 

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of experience with machine learning, artificial intelligence, or data science
• 2+ years of expereince in the cybersecurity domain
• Experience leading a research team

Software Engineering M6 – The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $163,000 – $296,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $220,800 – $331,200 per year.
