Principal Geologist

S&ME is seeking a Principal Geologist who has a unique set of technical, program management, business development, mentoring, and leadership skills to complement our growing environmental team and portfolio of clients in the Atlanta, Georgia market.

As a Principal Geologist, you will be responsible for all aspects of project execution, including communication with clients, work plan and proposal preparation, project scheduling and deadline tracking, budget evaluation, analysis, and report preparation, as well as potentially the Senior Reviewer of proposals and project deliverables. You will provide technical consultation throughout S&ME on projects of unusual scope or complexity. However, these duties and responsibilities may vary based on experience level. Principals are recognized internally and externally as technical and strategic subject matter experts in one or more technical areas, directing project teams and ensuring technical excellence and alignment with client needs.

Your Day-to-Day:

  • Final Review and Quality Assurance: Provide a final review of all project elements during the reporting phase. Responsible for the completeness and accuracy of field, laboratory, and technical analysis, and documentation of any assigned project.
  • Technical Oversight and Mentorship: Provide staff development of junior staff through technical support and mentoring.
  • Professional Engagement: Participate in boards of professional organizations or national organizations.
  • Client Relations and Business Development: Initiate client visits and meetings. Actively manage a network of contacts to identify future work across regions and service lines.

What You Bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or a related field
  • 15+ years of Geology experience
  • A Professional Geologist (PG) license
  • Excellent technical writing, project planning, and communication skills
  • Direct environmental consulting experience in conceptual site model development, regulatory interpretation, and groundwater remediation strategy development, implementation, and performance evaluation, a plus
  • Specialized experience in the assessment, cleanup, and re-use of Brownfield properties with environmental contamination (soil, groundwater & vapor intrusion), a plus
