| Position Description: |
The laboratory of Dr. Scott R. Daly in the University of Iowa Department of Chemistry is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Scholar to join a newly funded project aimed at investigating metal-phosphorus bonding with actinides, including the transuranium elements Np and Pu. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will be tasked with leading efforts to prepare and characterize new phosphorus ligands and actinide complexes. Qualified applicants must have significant experience and expertise in air-free synthetic methods (e.g., Schlenk and glovebox techniques), crystal growth and analysis using single-crystal X-ray diffraction, and spectroscopic characterization methods such as NMR and UV-vis spectroscopies. Experience in actinide chemistry and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) is viewed as highly desirable, though not required. Applicants that have an expressed interest in developing these skills will be viewed positively. Key responsibilities of the position include:
The initial appointment is for one year, with the possibility of extending it to two years depending on performance and availability of funding.
