Initially, this role will provide support to Junior and Senior Payroll Specialists but is designed to grow into a leadership position, eventually managing a team.The ideal candidate will collaborate closely with the Global Payroll Manager and other internal teams, ensuring smooth payroll processing and compliance across regions.Candidates should be detail-oriented, proactive, and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, where scaling operations and process improvement is key to success.Note: This is a remote role, and we are ideally looking for candidates located in Europe or the Middle East. A strong understanding of Europe-based payroll regulations is a significant advantage.Key ResponsibilitiesTeam Leadership & Operations

  • Support the Payroll Manager in overseeing daily payroll operations, assisting Junior and Senior Payroll Specialists in multiple regions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate payroll cycles for employees under EOR arrangements.

  • Act as a point of escalation for complex payroll issues and ensure timely resolution with a focus on the employee-focused manner.
  • Collaborate with internal teams (Customer Success, Finance, Legal, Employee Experience) to ensure alignment on employment status, compensation changes, and compliance needs.

Payroll Partner Coordination

  • Serve as the primary liaison between the company and payroll partners (EOR providers), handling day-to-day communication and issue resolution
  • Ensure that payroll inputs, approvals, and outputs are consistently accurate and delivered on schedule.
  • Review and validate payroll reports received from partners before final approvals and payments.
  • Monitor partner performance and ensure compliance with service expectations and regulatory requirements.

Quality Assurance & Compliance

  • Implement and manage payroll validation and quality assurance procedures to reduce errors and ensure data integrity.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records, audit trails, and documentation for internal and external audits.
  • Stay informed of country-specific payroll regulations and contribute to ongoing compliance efforts.

Process Improvement

  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize payroll accuracy, efficiency, and scalability.
  • Support the development of internal SOPs and training materials for the payroll team.
  • Contribute to system implementations or upgrades, ensuring payroll processes are appropriately supported by technology.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in payroll, including 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role.
  • Hands-on experience managing payroll through Employer of Record (EOR) platforms or global payroll partners.
  • Strong knowledge of global payroll compliance, with a special focus on Europe-based regulations being a strong advantage.
  • Proven ability to guide a team, prioritize workloads, and manage competing deadlines effectively.
  • Experience working in a fully remote, distributed team environment.
  • Highly detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving skills and analytical abilities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a collaborative and supportive leadership style.
  • Familiarity with payroll tools and platforms (e.g., Workday, ADP, Sage etc.).
