Position Summary

Part-Time Academic position

As a Part-time Professor, you will develop and deliver curriculum using various engaging and innovative methods, playing a pivotal role in enhancing academic excellence through sound teaching practice.

The School of Applied Computer Science & Information Technology is seeking qualified professionals to teach courses in the following areas part-time from September 2025 to December 2025:

  • Network Infrastructure
  • Network Security
  • Computer Systems Fundamentals
  • Computer Operations and Troubleshooting
  • Linux Systems Infrastructure
  • Virtualization
  • Database Systems Admin

Successful candidates will be required to conduct work within Ontario and must be available to work on campus as required. Classes are offered Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., both in-person and online. Teaching opportunities in the School of Applied Computer Science & IT are available at the Waterloo campus located at 180 University Ave and Doon campus (Kitchener) at 299 Doon Valley Dr. Part-time Professors typically teach one to two courses. Courses are approximately three to six hours per week in the classroom for a 14-week term.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure program and course curriculum are current, relevant, and reflective of best practices in the field
  • Design appropriate strategies and tools for facilitating and evaluating student progress and achievement
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction according to the format prescribed for the course, including online, classroom, and computer-assisted lab lessons
  • Ensure student awareness of course objectives, instructional approach, and evaluation systems
  • Evaluate student progress/achievement, assuming responsibility for the overall assessment of student work within the assigned course, and maintain records as required
  • Support students in the use of eConestoga, the learning management system (D2L), as well as maintain course materials within this system
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment which supports the diversity of students’ cultures, educational backgrounds, and learning styles
  • Work in a collaborative, collegial manner both within the department and across the college

Qualifications

  • Diploma or bachelor’s degree in a related field; master’s degree and/or PhD are considered an asset
  • Experience designing and implementing data networks
  • Experience with Cisco, Juniper, Palo Alto and Fortinet are considered an asset
  • Experience with curriculum development is an asset
  • Experience with computer systems (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) and educational technologies (e.g., D2L) is preferred
  • Demonstrated exceptional presentation, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of an academic team
  • Demonstrated ability to relate to learners and provide a positive learning environment to students working at different skill levels, including international students and students requiring accommodation, is an asset
  • Strong commitment to academic excellence, student success, and ability to support Conestoga’s continuous quality improvement initiatives
  • Strong relationships with industry contacts and network connections are considered an asset
