Special Certifications and Licenses:
Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver’s License for the duration of appointment.

Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Police Science, Sociology, Natural Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration, Management/Supervision, Hospitality, Parks and Recreation, Sport Management or closely related
Certification in Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED)
Class “D” Florida Security License
Certified law enforcement (Corrections, Police, Military, parks)
Current Crowd Control Management certification
Parks law enforcement experience
Customer service experience
Public speaking experience
Video surveillance systems and camera operations experience
Interpretive, cultural, and/or environmental education experience (i.e., presentations and/or plant identifications)
Ability to swim
Abie to learn to direct and control traffic in a park or event site
Able to ride a bike and become certified to patrol on various terrains and road surfaces and in crowds of vehicles and people
Able to speak and read English
Able to use a two-way radio
Able to work outdoors in various environments and weather conditions
Able to remain calm and focused in high-pressure situations and emergencies
Ability to speak foreign language(s) (Spanish, French/Creole)
The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the job as necessary.
Maintains a safe and enjoyable experience for all staff and visitors by providing superior customer service, explaining and interpreting rules, regulations, fees and enforcing the Customer Code of Conduct and suspension process.
Maintains high visibility and consistent interaction with park patrons and staff patrolling by foot or other modes of transportation that may include truck, bicycle, boat, and or cart.
Patrols assigned park areas to locate any hazardous or unsafe conditions to protect patrons, staff and property; investigate and report hazards, takes appropriate corrective action as applicable, and reports unusual or suspicious circumstances to management, emergency responders, and/or police. Performs basic first aid, assisting first responders as applicable.
Identifies unsecured assets and reports to management.
Documents, collects, provides data to assist law enforcement as required.
Communicates with managers, supervisors, administrative staff, volunteers, and the public to promote a positive image of the parks and recreation division.
Assists with planning and implements equipment setup for special events; Directs and controls crowds during events and programs.
Assists in planning and overseeing contracted security for events, programs, and everyday patronage of a large-scale park system.
Assists in interpretive, cultural, and environmental education.
Secures wildlife and other animals that are injured or stray and transports to appropriate facility and/or contacts the proper authority for assistance.
Reinforces Broward County’s security and safety messages and best practices for a coordinated operation division wide.
Performs related work as assigned.
Physical demands refer to the requirements for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Performs light work that involves walking or standing most of the time and involves exerting up to 50 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis, or skill, adeptness and speed in the use of fingers, hands or limbs on repetitive operation of mechanical or electronic office equipment or tools and equipment within moderate tolerances or limits of accuracy.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
Involves routine and frequent exposure to animals/wildlife.
