Welcome to the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department! From hiking on a barrier-free trail to horseback riding along a creek to testing your mountain biking skills and abilities on a competitive track, Maricopa County parks offer visitors the best of the Sonoran Desert.
Maricopa County is home to one of the largest regional park systems in the nation – comprised of approximately 120,042 acres of parkland and 872-miles of trails, with individual parks ranging from several thousand to 30,000 acres. Currently, there are fourteen parks in Maricopa County’s regional park system. Each is unique and offers its visitors a wide variety of recreational opportunities.
In addition to the parkland, the Maricopa County Parks and Recreation Department oversees the Maricopa Trail, a 315-mile trail system that encircles the valley and links all regional parks together. We Require
One year of custodial work experience
High School diploma or GED
Other requirements
Successful candidates must currently possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid Arizona driver’s license by the time of hire.
Job Contributions
Ensure the cleanliness and sanitary conditions of park facilities, and use appropriate cleaning supplies/chemicals while wearing proper personal protective equipment
Collect trash, rake, weed, and prune small trees and shrubs
Inspect assigned work areas, including analyzing field problems and developing proactive solutions. Make recommendations for purchases to management
Safely operate, maintain, and perform minor repairs to custodial equipment
Remove graffiti and paint interior and exterior structures
Assist with maintenance projects
Greet customers, provide information, answer questions, and collect entry fees when needed. Provide directions and educate customers on park rules
Respond to emergencies/rescues by contacting appropriate staff and providing support requested by law enforcement
Provide directions to volunteers or other work crews in manual labor tasks
Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
This position requires the employee to be in the office/field or customer-facing for all hours worked
Exerting 50 – 100 pounds occasionally, 10 – 25 pounds frequently, or up to 10 – 20 pounds constantly
Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures, wetness/humidity, respiratory hazards, and noise and vibration
Machines, Tools, Equipment, Software, and Hardware
Microsoft Office, including Outlook email, general landscaping tools, power washer, and power scrubber.
Protective Equipment Required
Nitrile gloves, leather work gloves, surgical face mask, safety glasses, shoe protectors (as needed), and waterproof and slip-free boots
