Operational Specialist Team Managers – Field Automation Specialists (FAS) (Flexibly located within Scotland)

Company

Scottish Water

Job description

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland. We’re transforming how we work within E&M and Property Services to create a more dynamic, efficient, and effective service – and this role is right at the heart of it.It’s your chance to be part of something bigger – shaping the future of our services, leading from the front, and making a real difference every day.Sound good? We’re looking for several Operational Specialist Team Managers – Field Automation Specialists (FAS) to join the team. What you’ll be doingYou’ll build a Field Automation Technical Service that provides proactive and reactive FAS support for field teams throughout Scotland whilst ensuring Scottish Water’s operational assets are reliable and resilient. You’ll bridge the gap between technical standards and Capital projects, making sure best practices are followed every time. And you’ll set up simple, effective ways for teams to share ideas and feedback so we’re always refining how we work to deliver even better results. When something goes wrong, you’ll get to the root of the problem and make sure it doesn’t happen again. You’ll carry out deep dives after incidents and investigate alternative resolutions for repeat failures, this will strengthen our asset resilience and reduce downtime. You’ll be setting the technical standards for FAS and working with the MEICA Academy to make those standards stick and turn them into the bedrock of how we operate. And that’s not all. You’ll lead our FAS strategy for maintaining legacy equipment, all while driving innovation and embracing new technology. Whether it’s preserving what works or pushing for what’s next, you’ll keep us ahead of the game. What you’ll needYou know field automation like the back of your hand – SCADA, PLCs, Distributed Control Systems, telemetry, instrumentation – you’ve got it covered. And with an HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical, Mechanical or Automation Engineering, your credentials speak for themselves. You’re a problem solver through and through. Complex challenges? You’ll crack them with creative thinking and clever solutions. And when it comes to the tricky stuff, you’ve got a way of explaining it that just makes sense. You’re a natural communicator and skilled influencer. Whether it’s chatting with frontline teams or collaborating with stakeholders, you know how to get people on board. Coaching, mentoring, or bringing people together – it’s what you do best. With so much of this role being digital-first, you’re right at home using IT tools like Office 365 to keep everything ticking along smoothly. And since you’ll be traveling throughout Scotland, a full driving licence is a must.Looking out for youWhile the work we do is important, we know it’s not the only thing that matters. That’s why we make sure you have everything you need to find a good work-life balance. This is a full time (35 hours per week) role, Monday to Friday. But you’ll get plenty of time to recharge with 38 days of holiday every year (including public holidays). And you can even buy five more if you need a little extra time. You can also take paid time off to volunteer in your community.

When it comes to major life events we have family-friendly policies around adoption, maternity, and parental leave. And for the everyday? We embrace flexible working. For your future, there’s our pension (the ‘know-what-you’ll-get-when-you-retire’ kind), as well as life assurance. As for some nice extras? You can expect an annual company bonus. Not to mention access to SW Splash – handy rewards that can save you money on holidays, bills, and shopping. The not-so-small printThis role will be a Grade 8. If you’re new to Scottish Water, you’ll join us on a starting salary of £48,900. Performance-driven pay progression would then allow you to move through the range to a maximum of £68,510.There’s no set standby for this role, but you’ll need to be flexible and ready to step in if an incident crops up out of hours. This role offers hybrid working, so you can be based anywhere in Scotland as long as you’re within commuting distance of one of our main office hubs, such as Edinburgh, Stepps, Dundee, or Inverness.Job offers at Scottish Water are conditional, and will be confirmed on completion of our pre-employment screening, e.g. referencing, criminal record checks, license checks, etc. These checks are conducted on our behalf by a third party. Don’t worry – we’ll ask your permission before starting these checks. If you’re interested in this role – or know someone else who might be – we’ll be accepting applications until midnight on Sunday 9 February 2025.A few final things worth knowing…Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve.
