This is a role within a developing multi-disciplinary respiratory high care team. The therapy team is led by a Respiratory Advanced Practitioner supported by Physiotherapists, Speech & Language Therapist and Occupational Therapist. While the focus of this role will be on the High Care Unit, it is envisaged that the incumbent with link with the critical care unit and the home ventilation service.You will need to have a high level of expertise to carry out expert OT assessments, design treatment and rehabilitation plans, to support patients in respiratory failure as a result of obstructive, restrictive lung disease, lung fibrosis and neurological conditions. This will encompass complex discharge but will a broad range of skills to address cognitive, physical and mental health will be required.Key Responsibilities:

• To be responsible for the provision of a highly specialist, OT intervention within the Respiratory High Care Unit. This includes inpatients, outpatients and supporting a small number community patients to prevent admission.
• To lead on the development and implementation of high quality, multi-professional education and training programmes for the unit.
• To participate in research and development by initiating, planning and undertaking clinical audits / research projects to evaluate and develop the specialist OT service on the unit and within the trust producing evidence
• To have a good knowledge of service resources within the community and be able to refer complex discharge patients to the appropriate teams
• To comply with the relevant code of professional conduct, professional standards, Trust and departmental policies.
• To facilitate home and access visits for highly complex patients to assess and assist with complex discharge planning and preparation

• Health Professions Council Registration
• BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy or equivalent
• CPD Portfolio

Desirable

• Relevant MSC or Post Graduate certificate/Diploma
• RCOT Membership

ExperienceEssential

• Minimum of 2 Years as B6 Occupational Therapist
• Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
• Supervision, education and appraisal of less experienced staff, and assistants
• Involvement and leading audits

Desirable

• Previous clinical experience of working in the field of Respiratory Medicine
• Involvement in research activities

• Excellent broad based OT assessment and planning skills
• Good understanding of core Occupational Therapy skills and current best practice in OT
• Excellent clinical decision and clinical reasoning skills
• Ability so support and progress complex discharges
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Professional report writing skills
• Ability to organise, prioritise and delegate within an MDT
• Good time management skills
• Good analytical and problem-solving skills – clinical reasoning
• Present verbal information professionally, clearly and concisely.
• Applied knowledge of legislation including the management of risk, and impact of legislation on service provision
