The Libraries data centre houses more than 200 servers with a storage capacity of 1.5 petabytes.Your OpportunityScholars Portal, a department of the University of Toronto Libraries (UTL), is the digital service arm of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), managing infrastructure and services that support Ontario’s 21 university libraries. The Scholars Portal team of librarians, developers, and systems staff support services in four broad areas: research and member services; data and geospatial services; digital collections; and digital preservation services.Reporting to the Metadata Librarian, the Metadata Production & Electronic Access Specialist will support the Scholars Portal content team as we build out the Scholars Portal Journals Trustworthy Digital Repository (TDR) for use across Canada. The Specialist will perform quality control on new and existing journals metadata, address any journals coverage issues flagged by Scholars Portal staff or CRKN members, and ensure all collections and journals entitlements are accurate as access to the Scholars Portal Journals platform is expanded.This position will work with technical and eresouces staff at Scholars Portal, and at universities across the country. They will also work with vendors, publishers, and discovery layer providers to ensure accuracy of Scholars Portal holdings, as well as maintaining and updating policies and procedures related to discovery tools. The position will also participate in the evaluation, reconciliation and monitoring of title lists from the various content providers.Qualifications(Minimum)Education:
- University degree or an acceptable combination of education and experience is required.
Experience:
- A minimum of five years related experience working in a research or library setting required.
- Experience working with electronic journals and books formats, metadata records and Electronic Resource Management Systems (e.g. Serials Solutions)
- Experience working with consortially licensed resources is an asset.
Skills:
- Knowledge of MARC formats and MARC record editing software required.
- Knowledge of XML markup language required; experience developing XML transformations and maintaining and managing XML documents and schemas an asset.
- Working Knowledge of Excel.
- Familiarity with ONIX is an asset.
- Familiarity with MarkLogic is an asset.
