Medical and Scientific Advisor (Oncology)This is an opportunity to join the UK Oncology Medical Team at GSK as a Medical Scientific Advisor aligned to pipeline assets. It’s an exciting time to join this forward-thinking medical team, in a role in which you will work on aligned oncology pipeline assets as the scientific and medical expert, across a number of different tumour types. This role will require significant external engagement, with approximately 50% field-based activity, and geographically covers the UK as a whole.To succeed in this role, you will need to combine astute scientific thinking with excellent communication skills. You must be able to successfully and consistently build relationships, engage external specialists and facilitate connections between external partners and GSK.   • Take ownership & oversee delivery of the medical strategic plan for aligned pipeline assets, including key evidence generation and data dissemination plans, external scientific/clinical exchange, identifying advice seeking needs and leading delivery of advisory boards and consultancies, and working collaboratively with colleagues across GSK UK (e.g. patient advocacy, health outcomes) and the relevant above country teams for both launch & pipeline assets, including working on UK health technology assessments
  • Uphold the highest compliance standards & provide authoritative opinion on medical and ethical matters to support colleagues across GSK, enabling the evidence- based use of GSK medicines and compliance with the relevant statutory requirements (e.g. ABPI Code of Practice, Medicines Act, and EU Directives).
  • Be responsible for conducting Medical review & examination and/or certification of materials.
  • Co-ordinating and utilising specialist knowledge with therapy aligned colleagues in formulating and implementing short- and long-term medical strategy for optimal benefit to the patient, prescriber and GSK.
  • Responsible for delivery of UK Medical Value proposition, through utilisation & implementation of the Medical Planning & Medical Impact frameworks.
  • Support creation & delivery of the Medical Digital & Technology plan for Omnichannel.
  • Deliver high quality & tailored external engagement across the healthcare system & through strategic medical partnerships to develop insight and understanding of the value of our medicines now and in the future.
  • Influencing clinical research strategies in support of UK market needs & support research activities including
  • Knowledge of UK clinical practice, care pathways, key competitors & input where required into study allocation process and implementation of studies in the UK.
  • Input into development of local protocols, patient information leaflets (including sign-off of risk/benefit statement) and named patient programmes.
  • Proactive input into European Medical meetings to ensure UK strategy is supported.
  • Establish relationships and build trust with investigators to answer medical questions, provide relevant training GCP & address issues arising from studies in the UK by supporting the clinical director and clinical study managers.
  • To provide input into post study analysis where required.

Why you?Basic Qualifications & Skills:We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Higher degree in life sciences, or registered medical doctor or pharmacist (MD, MBBS, MPharm, PharmD), or PhD
  • Experience as a Medical Scientific Advisor and/or Medical Scientific Liaison in the pharmaceutical industry
  • Significant and varied experience in oncology in either the pharmaceutical industry or healthcare/research sector – specific therapy area knowledge in non-small cell lung cancer, glioblastoma and colorectal cancer is desirable but not essential.
  • A good understanding of the changing UK health care environment, including understanding of health technology assessments and market access challenges in the UK
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • Superior organisation skills, with proven project management skills to lead and manage change projects
