Job description
Our Client, an Automotive Manufacturing company, is looking for a Mechanical Technician for their Pontiac, MI location.Responsibilities:
- Engine validation and engine development.
- Validation is pretty straight forward with just standard testing.
- The development space is more manual testing with calibration and hardware development.
Safety:
- Provide a safe working environment for everyone entering the area.
- Learn and follow all safety procedures.
- Verify everyone (including visitors) in area of responsibility follows safety rules and procedures.
- Maintain a safe and clean workspace (WPO).
- Identify, communicate and escalate unsafe work conditions.
- Notify Group or Team Leader (or escalate per process) when a safety incident occurs.
- Support resolution on all unsafe conditions and near misses.
- Utilize PPE.
- Understand the 2 foot rule, Orange Crush Zone and Evacuation & Take Shelter locations.
- Be aware of hazardous communication program.
People:
- Enhance employee engagement to promote employee enthusiasm.
- Participate in problem solving.
- Participate in cross training.
- Understand Level 5 BPD board.
- Provide information to support layered audits.
- Provide input for the group leader and team leader to plan meeting agenda.
- Participate in establishing and contributing to team goals.
- Participate in submitting team suggestions.
- Provide Job Instruction Training for new team members per standardized work (if qualified as a trainer).
Quality:
- Coach the quality motto, “Do not Accept, Build, or Ship a Defect”
- Learn and follow all quality procedures.
- Understand and follow the quality processes and procedures.
- Notify Team Leader/Group Leader of quality related issues.
- Assist/Coach team members not following quality processes/procedures.
- Support resolution to all quality issues.
- Ensure containment processes are followed.
- Identify defects in/out area.
- Understand and follows problem escalation process.
- Utilize Andon.
Responsiveness:
- Respond appropriately to meet the customer’s requirements.
- Understand daily work assignment(s).
- Meet with Team Leader at start of shift to get daily assignment(s).
- Able to use Andon system in accordance with escalation process.
- Participate in Throughput Improvement Processes (TIP) meetings.
- Ensure scrap and non-conforming material is identified and set aside for processing.
Cost:
- Utilize continuous improvement to identify and eliminate the 7 forms of waste.
- Understand and support elimination of waste (COMMWIP) waste.
- Aware of cost of supplies, energy, and parts for waste elimination.
- Assist team accurate documenting of scrap and non-conforming material.
- Participate in team CI objectives and BPD metrics.
- Seek efficiency in all activities to reduce cost.
Requirements:
- Engage in practices to minimize our environmental footprint.
- Looking for dyno testing experience, fabrication capability, and troubleshooting / problem solving experience.
- Understand and follow the applicable environmental policy.
- Support conserving energy and minimizing waste.
- Actively support recycling processes (water, air, materials, etc.)
- 3 different spots we are hiring for – Pallet build, Engine validation, and Engine development
- Pallet build – receive a property, set it up to engineer standards, fabrication work, drilling, welding, getting them ready to slide into a dyno to spin (for this spot there is no dyno experience required, this is like a mechanic at a dealership role)
- Engine Validation – they will be assigned test cells to own and operate, install of the property, do morning checks, hit a start button because it is all automated, watch that or move on to the next cell to complete task
- Engine Development – no start button, 10% automated and the rest is manual, must have puma or dyno experience, developing calibrations or hardware to support the launch of the new properties
- Work environment – typical lab environment, clean, lot of safety and standards in place .
- Required Degree – Bachelor’s Degree (no preference on area of Degree)
- At least 5 years experience with Dyno Testing
- Experience with fabrication capability and troubleshooting
- Problem Solving Experience – tell me about a process that was broken and how you fixed it/solved the problem.
